Koivu score twice and Tangauy has 3 points as Habs knock off Brodeur and the Howe leading Oilers. The win keeps the playoff race tight as the Habs are now only 3 points behind the Hurricanes with a game in hand. Hold on tight, in the words of one of the best calgary broadcasters in history "its gonna be a ring-a-ding dong dandy"

Another day, another loss. The Devils outshoot the Thrashers but still find a way to lose a 3-2 game. Bill Guerin scores the game winner in the third. 3 straight one goal losses for the Devils in which the other team also sweeps the 3 stars selections....PLEASE END RIGHT FREAKING NOW SEASON!!!!!

Divis almost passes a big test. The B's outshot the Cats 34-26 but couldnt capitalize on the extra shots. 1 for 9 is all we could muster on the PP. That stinks.

PLAYOFF LIGHT DIMS

Denis Arkhipov bowls over Rangers goaltender Dwayne Roloson
Wednesday night.

UNIONDALE, NY - Tomas Vokoun was pulled from the Islander net in the third period as the Isles were blanked at home by a score of 6-0.

It was a disappointing night for Islander fans as they watched the hometeam skate on to the ice of the Nassau Coliseum with almost no effort in a losing cause as the Islanders got shut out by the rival Rangers by a score of 6-0.

With a playoff race as tight as can be in the Gretzky Conference, every game matters as teams begin to do a little more out-of-town scoreboard watching to see how others around them are doing.

Despite firing 30 shots at former Islander Dwayne Roloson, the majority of the shots were kept to the perimeter with little to no traffic in front of the Ranger's net.

At the other end of the ice, Vokoun allowed 5 goals on 26 shots before getting the yank in the third period in favour of Cristobal Huet. Although shaky at times, not much blame could be placed on the Islander netminder who was left on his own more than once to fend off more than one Ranger attacker.

The powerplay could have made a difference in the game, but instead went 0 for 7 on the night allowing a shorthanded goal against in the first period.

All in all, a disappointing outing for the Islanders who fortunately, lost no ground to the Carolina Hurricanes who also lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday.

The Isles play next tomorrow against the very strong Boston Bruins. The Isles had hoped they would see Divis in net for the Bruins who might rest their star goalie, but after getting the yank Wednesday, Kolzig will likely be in between the pipes for Boston tomorrow.

And the Stars are back in last place. It's ok, that just means we have the #1 overall pick, which is available for the right price, back in our clutches. Tjarnie gets a goal in his first game, and Iowa wins again. Not a bad night overall for us.

Farhall Likes his New Johnson

Brent Johnson has done the job. Its just that simple.

The new Wild goalie recorded his 3rd win in a row since being acquired by the Wild. The veteran tender has been solid and exactly what the Wild needed according to GM Farhall.

"Brent is stopping the pucks he should and ultimately that's all we need from him".

Meanwhile Jarome Iginla scored 1 goal to reach the 60 goal mark and close to within 2 of tieing the all-time CPHL record. Iginla may also break the point record of 116 held by retired star Ziggy Palffy.

Dan McGillis has also caught on fire adding 2 goals, making it 3 in the last 2 games for the veteran blueliner. This is welcome news as the Wild may be without the services of Matthias Ohlund.

Belfour stands tall in Pens debut!!

The Penguins shaded the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 tonight. Ed Belfour made 30 saves and was named 2nd star in his Penguins debut. Peter Forsberg had a strong game with a goal and 2 assists and was named 1st star, while Ilya Kovalchuk continued his strong play of late with 2 helpers. Chris Chelios added two assists and Jaroslav Spacek, Markus Naslund and Jan Bulis scored for the Pens. The Pens are right back in action tommorow versus the San Jose Sharks.

Bolts Show up for once...... Knock off the Caps 7-5

Oleg Kvasha notched 3 points and the defence held on despite 5 points from Nathan Horton.

It has been a nice run in the last couple weeks with Tampa notching the occasional win. Droopy hopes this will lead into some positives for next season.

Default Sabres Win Big In First Half Of Home And Home

Sabres 6 Jets 0

not much to say, as things are getting late. Sabres ran into a tough Jets team, took them seriously and won 6-0. Martin Gerber pitched the shutout. Uncertain whether Giguere or Gerber will go tomorrow. Scoring came from all through the lineup which is good. Rochester also beat the baby Jets 5-0.

Big rematch Thursday

Rangers 6 - Islanders 0

Today was a big game for both New York Clubs, with around 12 games left the Rangers knew every game is important especially division games. The star of the game was Roloson he stopped all 30 shots.

Rangers speciality teams were a big factor in today's win as the Powerplay was 1 for 3 and PK were successful on all 7 attempts plus it added a Short handed goal which was the game winner.

Next Game vs Flames

'Canes let one get away

Despite the opportunities the Hurricanes just couldn’t get it done as they let 2 points slip through their grasp.

The Hurricanes came out with some jump as they faced off against the dangerous Penguins on Wednesday. The power play was flexing it’s muscles as the scored two of the three early goals by way of their special teams unit, but as the game went on the power play lost it’s luster and became to faulted.

Frantisek Kaberle opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first but Penguins Jaroslav Spacek and Markus Naslund responded with goals of their own as the Home team took a 2-1 lead into the 1st intermission. Once again the Hurricanes came out of the gate flying as Mike Komisarek tied the game up at two till the ‘Canes power play took the lead as Rick Nash slid the puck past Ed Belfour and pushing the Hurricanes into the lead. With the lead the Hurricanes seem to tighten up on their game and although given opportunity after opportunity on the powerplay the ‘Canes just couldn’t put the Penguins away. Till eventually the tight play finally caught up as the Penguins took advantage of a careless high sticking penalty by Nash as Forsberg, Chelios and Kovalchuk made a beautiful tick-tack-toe passing play and tied the game up at 3 all. Shortly afterwards Mathieu Dandenault slapped a high shot passed the lifeless Hurricanes as the Penguins finished off the game with a 5-3 victory and a 9 point lead over the struggling ‘Canes.
