Pens call up division rival for help between the pipes!
With the tragic news that superstar starter Jose Theodore will be lost for 6-8 weeks after breaking his heel bone, in an accident. The Pens were forced to act quick or risk being swept farther down the standings. GM Goffie new that backup Jason Labarbera and backup Yan Danis would not be able to hold the fort for long so he swung a deal to sacrificed the future to help the team shortterm. The deal sees the Pens deal two big pieces of the future in offensive defensemen Kurtis Foster and current backup Jason Labarbera along with a 5th round pick too the divisional rival Ottawa Senators in exchange for Eddie "Buzzhead" Belfour and Zac Beirk. Despite thir close proximity in teh standings a deal was worked out very quickly that benefits both sides. GM Goffie had this to say:
"This is a deal I would not have considered making 2 days ago. Kurtis Foster was the future anchor of our powerplay and Jason Labarbera is a young goalie with a lot of potential. However desperate times lead to desperate measures, and in order to keep in the playoff mix this deal was neccesary. Eddie makes us solid now and should hold the fort nicely while we wait for Theo to recover. We hope Eddie can pick up his game and lead the Pens into the playoffs ona high note."
