Charred Remains Confirmed As Those of Missing Airdrie Mom
February 17, 2006 | 5:30pm
The RCMP have confirmed that a woman who disappeared from Airdrie five weeks ago was found murdered the same day she was reported missing by her common-law husband.
The charred remains of a body were found in a pile of debris by two hikers in an abandoned building near Canmore. After weeks of waiting, the RCMP say DNA testing has conclusively determined the remains as those of 40-year-old Ruth Degayo.
“At this time, it is no longer a missing person, it's a homicide investigation,” said RCMP Corporal Patrick Webb.

This woman was a friend and coworker of my mother. Horrible news. For the record, most of Ruth's friends believe that her husband is guilty of her murder. He did not report her missing until 3-4 days after she was last seen by anyone other than him, and he also didn't report her missing until someone else found out that she was.
My heart goes out to her family, my mother, and the rest of Ruth's friends.
The following are two stories from today (Feb. 18) that are significantly better, especially the Herald:
