Canada Kicks Ass, Caio from Italy
So I took a little trip from Rome to Turin the other day. WAs very glad I did. I had two tix for the Canada Germany game, and the buddy of mine that was supposed to come from Canada couldn't make it.
I was going to sell the tickets, but then (like a sign from above), I scored a free tidket to Torino.
THEN, I met a couple of very nice Canadian girls that were going to be in the area at the same time (well, Milano, but close, anyway).......
So, the plan was that we'd meet in Torino, try to find a third ticket, and just party like good Canadians.
Mission Accomplished.
Turin is a city that
a) Has a bank on every corner of every building
b) Likes Egypt and Egyptian stuff
That's really all you need to know about that place, IMHO, once you've seen a few big, old churches, you've seen them all...
The Egyptian museum in Torino is pretty damn cool, I recommend it.
On to the interesting stuff. We went down to the palasport whateverthehell around 6 pm. The stadium had a fence around it that was so far away from the actual building, that I wasn't even sure we were entering the staduim. There was a Canadian standing right there, so I asked him. He tells us we're in the right place, f'sho, and asks if we need a ticket.
How much?
A beer or two...
Done. Let's go to the beer gardens
Well, the swedes and finns were drunk as skunks in the beer gardens. The canadians were slowly taking over, however... I ran into plenty of people (just like me) that were wearing calgary gear for the dual purpose of wearing red and still giving love to the Flames.
Game time... I was sitting 9 rows behind the German net. Wayne was up to my right in the second balcony. He was definitely with Kevin Lowe, and I think Bob Nicholson and 4 other people. Couldn't get up there because they have separate entrances for all 4 quadrants of the staduim. ****ers.
After the game, all the Canadians went back to the beer gardens and turned that place into the Red Mile re-incarnate. ****ING amazing. Wow. I actually ran into a girl that I used to know wayyy back in high school (12 years ago), kinda cool.
The beer garden was a great time, until midnight when they shut down. But that didn't stop Canada from rocking Torino. We (well, only about 80 of us) all decided to go to some bar, that one chick claimed was a great place, to finish off the night. So it was. The caravan of Red. People were honking, Canadians were waving flags, we were chanting CA-NA-DA... Then, we jumped on a bus and treated the passengers to a rendition of O Canada. That was one full bus, I gotta say... But the other passengers seemed to be pretty entertained. I'm proud to announce that nary a Canadian was an asshat. It was jolly drunkardness, not idiot drunkardness...
So we all arrived to this bar. One of those cool pubs with a dozen different little rooms. The place was suddenly swarmed by Red people. It was frikken awesome.
Uh, the night went on from there. I stayed until 4 am, but then I had to catch a train back home... Party was winding down a bit, but plaenty of us were still going...
Was awesome that before the game, and during, we were all canadians, and then after the game, friendly rivalries kicked in. There were the Leaf fans, Nux, Habs, Oil, Sens, and plenty of Flamers... It was such a good time, I just had to write this really long post.
Hope you read it.
Oh, when I got back to Roma, a guy I know apparantly saw a (very brief) glimpse of me on TV. He didn't klnow I went to Torino and asked if I was there... Guess our caravan made Italian news. Don't know if it made Canadian news...
