Wild Survive

Whew.

For the second consecutive game, Jamie Storr could not give the Wild anything resembling a quality start. But thankfully for the team, Minny's top line of Sundin-Spezza-Iginla was in fine form, allowing the team to escape with a 7-6 win over the Coyotoes

Sundin led the squad with 1 goals and 5 points, while Spezza and Iginla enjoyed 3 point nights. For Iginla, the 3 points allowed him to reach the century mark for the season while closing in on both the CPHL scoring lead, as well as the single season goal record.

After the game, GM Farhall was pleased with the win, though did not hold back his disdain for Jamie Storr.

"Its tough to win in this league when your goalie can't stop anything thrown his way. Thankfully with our deal this evening that will hopefully be resolved.".

In other game notes, veteran Tom Fitzgerald scored his first goal as a member of the Wild and Dan Sedin notched a pair.

JETS BOMB HELL!

JETS 7 DEVILS 2!
Jets Record:
34-31(2)-6=76 pts—6th in the conference.

Jet Goals:

NIKOLISHIN 12 (BOUCHER, CAJANEK)
YORK 6 (WALZ, AFANASENKOV)
NOVOSELTSEV 13 (UNASSISTED)
GRATTON 21 (RECCHI, BOUCHER) (PP)
GRATTON 22 (DEVRIES, NIKOLISHIN)
RECCHI 23 (UNASSISTED)
RECCHI 24 (MIRONOV, BARNES) (PP)

Positives:

Back to back 7 goal games! The offensive production is surprising the hell out of the gm. Another couple of power play goals is always great to see as well. Pierre Turgeon should make his Jet debute tomorrow night.

Negatives:

No bitching tonight, very pleased that there was no let down against a crappy New Jersey squad.

Player of the Game:

Nic Havelid is tonights POG! Nic played one minute in his final game as a Jet!

Turning Point:

The turning point tonight came in a 5:57 span late in the first period, the Jets scored 4 times in that span to blow the game wide open at 4-0.

Up Next:

Tomorrow vs. the Yotes!

News:

GM Walsh is still looking to make one or 2 more deals prior to the trade deadline.

Cheechoo & Zidlicky light it up!
Both Players have 4 point nights to lead the Canadiens to a 7-1 victory. Habs win to stay in the hunt. However, its a tight race and climbing back into the playoffs will require more than the sporadic good performance.

Oh no we suck again.....Maybe if the Devils hadn't been run by two of the biggest nerds in CPHL history things might be better. At least the Devils finally have a sharp looking fellow running the show. Things can only get better.

Sens lose a Key game vs the Ranges.

Eddie played strong but the offense just could not get back on track and we fall 2-1

Good news is Turco is rested and ready to go for our next game.

Pens Ride Theodore to win over Nords!

Jose Theodore continued his hot play stopping 26 of 27 shots he faced to lead the Pens to a 4-1 win over the Nords. Theodore was named 1st star for his efforts. Martin Cibak paced the offense with two goals while Markus Naslund continued his hot play in a Penguins jersey with 2 assists. The subject of many trade rumors over the past couple of days Ilya Kovalchuk also added a pair of assists. The Pens needed this win to keep its gap between the bottom 4 playoff teams and help their quest of gaining home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

Thrashers dull the Buffalo Blades...err Sabres!

THRASHERS 0 3 1 0 4 SABRES 1 1 1 0 3

Goalie Statistics Patrick Lalime (THR), 25 saves out of 28 shots, W, 45-15-1
J-S Giguere (SAB), 16 saves out of 20 shots, L, 28-23-3

Power Play Conversions
THRASHERS 0 for 0
SABRES 1 for 4

Game Stars
1 - Jeff Friesen (THR)
2 - Anson Carter (THR)
3 - Robert Lang (SAB)

The Thrashers have been in a bit of a late season swoon lately, partially due to the fact that top defenceman Scott Niedermayer is out having his knee fixed for the playoffs, and partly due to Patrick Lalime being rested for the playoff haul. It seems the Thrashers are getting their mojo back!

The Sabres are a tough team in a batlle for their playoff lives and the Thrashers caught them at home and while they were on a hot streak.
Buffalo came out strong holding the Thrash to a mere 3 shots in the first period while Matt Lombardi picked up his 8th of the year on the PP helping the Sabres toa 1-0 lead. Brendan Morrow added his 29th at 1:51 of the second period before the Thrashers started to skate. Overconfodence by the Sabres led to their eventual downfall and before the end of the second period, Anson Carter, Jeff Friesen and Marty St Louis all scored to help the Thrash overcome the 2-0 start and lead 3-2 going home.
Captain Craig Conroy, long jilted by the CPHL weekly and monthly star selector committee, scored his 22nd goal at 4:07 of the 3rd which placed the final nail in Buffalos coffin on the night. Comedian Pat Paulsson scored Buffalo's 3rd goal late in the period to make the score respectable, but couldnt push another past Lalime.

Next game in Georgia vs the Blew Jackets on Sunday.

Bird poop

The Thrashers swung a small deal with the Dallas Stars on Friday night adding depth and grit for the upcoming playoff run.
Going to Dallas is Mathias Tjarnqvist with super pest Jarkko Ruutu coming to Atlanta.

Oil end a three game mini series with a 5 – 1 win over the Flyers.

Oil continue to keep pace with the big bad Thrash for the Hilton Hotels Sponsorship, granted the top CPHL team. And keep pace with the red hot Flames, who continue to chase the Oil like a rabid dog in the Martin Division.

Injuries are high right now in the CPHL, and the Oil feel the wrath as well, with our top forward and all star defenseman on the shelf. Tonight a few of the young kids stepped up to help fill the void. Marc-Antoine Pouliot opened the second period only 7 seconds in with a power play goal. Assisted by Morozov and Joel Andresen. Two minutes later Joel answers with a goal of his own to give the Oil a three-goal cushion. Jay Bouwmeester also added a goal late in third. Vinny and Hossa rounded out the scoring for the Oil.

Martin was not very busy today as the defense kept the play to the outside and never really allowed the Flyers to gain much pressure. As the Oil out shot the Flyers on the night thirty-two – seventeen.

Marian Hossa has really elevated his game in the absence of the machine to the lineup. After loosing to the Flyers three games ago, Hossa has taken it upon himself to get us going in the right direction with 4 goals, 5 assists for 9 points and a +7 in the last two games. Hossa currently sits third on the CPHL scoring race with 93 points, including 51 goals

Notes.

R.J. Umberger and Joel Andressen fight to a draw

Joel has now played in 39 games, recorded 3 goals, 3 assists and is a +7.

A solid future CPHL star.

Who’s next?

R & R for three days.

It was only a matter of time

It wasn’t pretty but the Hurricanes find a way to squeak out a victory against the Blue Jackets. After falling behind the Blue Jackets 2-0 into the second period as Olli Jokinen and Tony Amonte added goals for the home team. Hurricanes center Daymond Langkow add the Hurricanes lone goal in the period as the Hurricanes went into the 2st intermission trailing the Blue Jackets 2-1.

Hurricanes coach Hanna must have rallied up the troop in the intermission as the Hurricanes came out flying and were rewarded with a beautiful end to end rush by one of the most exciting players in the CPHL as Alexander Ovechkin did the rope-a-dope on the committed Manny Legace. Once the Hurricanes had the momentum they didn’t look back as it was a matter of time that the Blue Jackets defence would collapse and the Hurricanes pressure would take advantage of it. At 14:18 that is exactly what happened as Frantisek Kaberle slapped home a high side shot passed the Jackets goaltender as the Hurricanes for the first time in the game took the lead, a lead that they would ride out the period and victory over the Blue Jackets.

The Canucks came out flat and paid for it in the end, losing 2 important points. The next Canucks game will prove to be interesting, as the newest additions will make their debut.
