Ian Laperriere Extends
The Quebec Nordiques are proud to announce that they have extended the contract of Forward Ian Laperriere. The new terms of his contract have Ian making 4.3 Million over the next 3 seasons, including the remainder of this season.
"Ian has taken a real leadership role with the franchise, and we're glad to have his name on the dotted line." stated Nords GM Prottotype.
Could Quebec be changing their tune? Could the youth movement be over. Why sign Laperriere now, so close to the trade deadline. Many teams are looking for role players heading into the playoffs. Who's to know.

$4.3mill for Laperriere? Why didn't you just give him a NTC at the same time?

Well it's a lot of money....But there is very little available in the free agency pool. Just shows how cheap those contracts for Morrison and Aucoin were. Those players likely get in the 7 million per season neighbourhood as UFA's. Lots of bad teams with lots of money, very few good players to be aquired for money=big pay day for players who are any good. It's not a popular view, but thats how it is.

Just as a note, the Aucoin extension was at just under 6.6 million for next year viewed as a one year contract (was at 3.84m for this year, moved up to 5.2m over 2). I'm not sure I would see much more than 6.6m for Aucoin next year, especially risk adjusted given his season to date, but to each his own.

Well I can't tell you what I'd pay your clients, that would be tampering. But my best defenceman currently has a 72OV rating and I have somewhere between 20-25 million dollars extra money in the offseason. Would it have hurt you to see what he'd been worth on the open market?

Great deal Protto,
I wonder if we can have a signing without the "wow" in reference to how high the contract is and also not have the "I would have paid him more". Both sides of the coin, either or it can all go without if you ask me... but one thing for sure, good job on Martin and Protto for at least getting a deal done.

The Quebec Nordiques have pulled a sign and trade, shocking most GMs in the CPHL. Just hours after extending and raising Ian Laperriere's contract, they have shipped the forward, along with forward Dallas Drake to the Vancouver Canucks for young forwards Pavel Vorobiev, Mike Zigomanis, and Washington's 2nd rounder.
The Nordiques lose a lot in leadership, and grit, but make up for it in young tallent, and bag-loads of potential. Pavel Vorobiev was the main piece to the trade, and the organization is please to be able to add the youngster to the fold.
The deal required Ian Laperriere's contract to be re-work into a 3 year deal. It cost a tad to get it done, but all 3 sides involved in the deal were more than please with the negotiations.
Quebec wishes Laperriere and Drake all the best on the west coast.

OH, I called that one! The 'WOW' factor and Mango have been getting a lot of attention these days considering over half the gm's here have a crush on her!

And this is the main reason we did the contract extension is to help trades along. We have done deals like this before and it is my firms policy to not stiffle trades due to pending UFA's. If the price is right and the trade works for my client(moving from a non playoff team to a playoff team etc..) we can work out a deal. If not then no deal is to be made. Just that simple.

The Vancouver Canucks were searching for more leadership. This is exactly what this deal brings. In addition, the Canucks organization is rarely interested in a "rental" player, hence the contract extention. With that said, a main part of the deal was that some of Laperriere's new salary would be covered for next season.
With the emergence of Petr Prucha, Pavel Vorobiev was expendable. Vorobiev will now get the playing time he deserves in Quebec City. We wish him the best of luck.
The Canucks look forward to the veteran leadership and strong defensive presence both Laperriere and Drake will bring to the team.
The Canucks would like to thank both the Quebec GM and Quan Represenation for the excellent negotitations.

If I may weigh in...
If I recall Lapierre had a pretty high contact (relatively speaking for the type of player he is) before the reneg. These are tough deals because on one hand a raise will make the player more overpaid (arguably), however the agent certainly isn't going to take less.
Good on both sides to get a deal done. And good deal for both teams too.
