Nords Trading Fools
The Quebec Nordique have been on a torrid pace, trading players left right and centre, over the last week.
It all started with negotiations with various teams about then Nordique leading scorer Jaromir Jagr. While 2-3 teams were in the thick of the trade talks, the Chicago Blackhawks came away with future Hall Of Famer. Following Jagr to the Windy City are centre Jason Krog, and goalie Nolan Schaefer.
Coming to the Quebec Nordique are forwards Kristian Huselius, and Ryan Malone, and Defensemen Adrian Aucoin, and Brent Burns.
The Nordique spent little time shipping Adrian Aucoin to the Nashville Predators for Forward Peter Schaefer, Dman Aaron Ward and goaltending prospect Kevin "Nasty" Nastiuk.
Quebec had one more deal on the go last night, shipping Dman Todd Simpson to the Minnesota Wild for prospect forward Robbie Earl.
"I guess it's kinda unheard of for an expansion team to go through a fire sale this early in their existance," claimed GM Prottotype, "but after bringing in firepower and building a strong team on paper, and not seeing the results, it was in the team's best interest to cut their losses, and start looking to next year."
It's expected that the Nordiques will continue to be active in the trade market over the next few weeks, heading into the trade deadline. One player in the dressing room has been told NOT to sell his Qebec home, being future saviour of the franchise, goaltender Antero Niittymaki. Everyone else has a price tag on their heads, while the look of the AHL team will change drastically over the near future.
"We're trying to build a winner here. We've experienced some growing pains, but we're ready to put that behind us, and ice a compeditive team starting next season."
