IMPORTANT DATES!!!! Please read!
OK GMs I have calculated the games left and added them to the calendar to give us our season ending dates....these are all posted on the Main page as normal.
- Trade Deadline - Monday, March 13th, 2006 Midnight MST
- End of Regular Season - Friday, March 17th, 2006
- 2005-2006 CPHL Playoffs - Start Monday, March 20th, 2006
- 2006 CPHL Entry Draft - Sunday, June 11th 2006
So Newbies are aware....trading resumes about 4 or 5 days after the playoffs are done. We sim individual conference games one day...and the following the next. So to start the playoffs we will go with Howe first day..Gretzky second...until all series are complete and a Champion is announced.
With a month to go all teams should know pretty much exactly where they stand as of now....except the Hpwe Confernece where there are many puzzles left to be built.
Good Luck!

some questions..
Does UFA starts on july 1st?
Will the playoffs be long over by July 1st?
Between the playoffs ending and July 1st, can we try re-signing our UFAs?

- Yes UFA starts on July 1st
- Yep Playoffs should be done by end of Aprilish
- Yep you can try resigning players anytime actually...right thru the playoffs if you like.
- You can also negotiate trades and to ensure they are accepted two GMs who are part of the league must have a valid email together where each has approved a deal. IF a GM leaves the league before validation the trade is null and void.
- IF you feel you dont have the time to continue after this year is done.email the league at cphl1 and let us know. Dont be an arse and quit the day before the draft. Let someone else do their own thing.

The key word in that sentence is OUR...as in YOUR UFAs. Gms CANNOT communicate with agents about a player that is still currently signed with a team. Tampering will not be tolerated. You MUST wait until 12:01 am July 1st to talk to agents about UFAs.
There will be significant penalties for tampering (eg. you will be fired).

I would also suggest that if an agent experiences this, they should report it to the league ASAP.

Interesting.
So I dont have to answer to "I am about to aquire player X who is going to be a UFA this summer. Can we sign a long term deal?"

Even if the GM's have agreed that it's okay? I thought NHL teams would permit agents to talk to certain teams if the player was on the trading block.
I mean if I go to an agent and say I want to sign pending UFA Barney Rubble who currently plays for the Thrashers, than thats bad.
But if Atlanta gives me permission to talk to the agent about a new contract in order to make a trade I see nothing wrong with that.
Not to speculate too much, but I think that type of action helped make the Joe Thornton trade happen. Was a trade like that so bad for the league? I certainly don't think so.
I also see no harm in me telling all agents right now that their good pending UFA clients should test the market this summer because I'll make it worth their while. I name no specific players, so I don't see that as tampering either. If thats deemed as unacceptable I think thats bull ****. I mean somehow the GM's of the really bad teams need to get the message out to the agents that pending UFA players likely will garner crazy wages because there are that many of us who have money, and need talent in a bad, bad way.

as the wheel turns....Syl...have you taken your medicine today?
Relax...IF a team gives someone permission then how could it be tampering. Permission doesnt mean an agent has to listen though. IF you also tell agents not to sign UFAs then how could that possibly be tampering...unless Im missing something here.
Go back to your room and paint a nice flower Syl...use all the primary colors please.

Nope sorry SlyvanFan. I did all the talking to Havlats Agent regarding his deal. Helsa did not talk to the agent. it was all done on my end. I confrirmed with Helsa that the Salary would be ok before finalizing the deal but thats about it. It was me the negotiated his deal sure I got an idea of how much helsa would be willing to spend but thats it. I dont see this being an issue for the league since it was I that initiated everything and did all the work with the Agent. All Helsa did was Say he could live with the contract should our trade go through...

Well to be clear I never suggested you did anything wrong.
But I did speculate a bit that somehow a new contract did impact the trade negotiation. I just didn't know who negotiated the contract. I actually think that you negotiated a deal to get rid of the NTC was a good thing, something that should be encouraged.

Okay maybe it didn't happen in the Thornton trade but it did happen in one of my deals recently. That would be the Gionta-Morris deal with LA. I did absolutely no negotiating with the agent, I simply let him know that I gave LA permission to negotiate a deal for Gionta. If permission is given of course it's okay.

Yep I agree with this,
- but the other scenario is guezz I think I will trade for Barney, but Barney is a UFA.
- Call the agent and agree to a contract and then trade for the player.
- If the other GM is not aware of this then thats a real bad thing to do. That is tampering.
The key element is the other GM must give you permission.
