Well in the back ground of all the big guns pulling off Earth shattering moves the Devils cracked out the old cork gun and attempted to joing the war with a deal themselves.
The deal sees servicable and valuable veteran defenceman Glen Wesley head to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for quasi insane Lithuanian bruiser Darius Kasparitis. Wesley has been a very effective player for the Devils this year and at 1.1 million per year is a bargain basement player. Certainly a great number 6-7 guy for a team who wants to make a serious run at the CPHL title.
In describing the deal Devils Gm Syl simply said it was a matter of getting a younger player who's got an extra year on his contract. "Kasparitis is a similar player who is a bit younger, and does have an extra year on his contract. With the situation we're in we don't mind taking on a bit of extra salary to move Wesley for a similar player who is younger. Basically takes us out of the retirement risk, although we feel that Glen will certainly be in the CPHL next year, and continue to play at a high level. Some don't like Kaspar because they say he's dirty. I like players who play dirty because it tells me that they will do anything to beat the other guy. Being a dirty player just means that you've over come the mental block thats holding you back from getting an edge on others. Dirty = Good in my books, and I hope the Jack Johnson is as dirty, or even dirtier a player than Kasparitis. Glen was great for us though and we do wish him all the best in Pittsburgh."
