Default is this a fair price? Xbox

My buddy wants to sell me his Xbox and accesories and i really dont know if its a fair price. THe unit is in fine condition, he hasnt played it much, but its not exactly the cutting edge 360.

The unit
2 controllers
remote
memory card

Its not an Xbox2, just the plain Xbox. He also says he has a few games, the only one i care for is Madden, but regardless, i would be buying it for the kids (ssh thats the story for my wife and i am sticking to it!)

Anyhow, he asked for $175 bones. I dont want to haggle with a buddy, if its a fair price than so be it. Can i even still get games for an Xbox?

Opinions?

No. You can buy a brand new Xbox with 2 controllers and a memory unit AND games from froogle for $190. You can get the basic Xbox + controller + MU
for $104 (US - with exchange rate probably $130 after shipping).

You will have no problems whatsoever purchasing games for your Xbox! TONS of used and new.

I think if you go to EB Games or Cash Converters, you may be able to get a used one for about $160...mind you that includes only one controller (although the memory card you don't need because the XBox has a very large hard drive). You can get one new for about $200 and this comes with one controller and a game (Forza Motorsport I think).

$175 is not unreasonable, but I would suggest closer to $150 to be fair for a friend-friend transaction. If the XBox is in good (almost new shape) and you can afford to bite the bullet on that $25, you've got an allright setup.

$175 is not far off

Or you can just get your XBox modded. There are guys who put in mod chips. I know a guy who does software only mods...anyone familiar with these? I had this done on mine, very cool. Basically there is a certain save file in one of the James Bond games which allowed users access to XBox system files, thus allowing it to be modded. Very cool as my Xbox now performs all the functions of a modded XBox (burned games, plays DVD's, emulators and roms) without the chip.

I'm not sure which file allowed this or who discovered it, but it is very cool indeed.

$175 isn't an outrageous price, but I'd say that $150 is far more reasonable. And as for buying Xbox games, you'll have no problem. I'm sure they'll still make Xbox games 10 years from now (they still make PS1 games I think...).

Personally, I can't see much of a difference between the Xbox and X360's graphics. Anybody owning a 360 care to explain what was upgraded? I also heard that you need a HD TV to see a difference in the image.

As someone who works in the video game industry, your post almost made my head explode! Suffice it to say

No - Microsoft will not be making Xbox games next year, let alone in 10 years.

No - Sony does not still make PS1 games.

Yes - there are major upgrades between the 360 and the original Xbox. Aside from the major graphics improvements, processing power, memory, audio channels all have been dramtically improved.

As for the price? If you can buy the basic Xbox model for $104, why would you spend $175?
