Part Two
  1. Visnovsky, Lubomir (D) (Possibly Norris Trophy Candidate)
  2. Tamer, Chris (D) NHL (Depth)
  3. Alberts, Andrew (D) AHL (Good young dman)
  4. Maltby, Kirk (LW) NHL (Upgrade over Marchant)
  5. Blake, Rob (D) NHL (Best Dman in the deal)
FOR
  1. Pirjeta, Lasse (C) NHL (Depth)
  2. Ohlund, Mattias (D) NHL (good dman)
  3. McCabe, Bryan (D) NHL (good dman)
  4. Olvestad, Jimmie (LW) NHL (depth)
  5. Fitzgerald, Tom (RW) NHL (depth)
  6. Marchant, Todd (C) NHL (overpaid and a UFA)
  7. Doig, Jason (D) NHL (depth)
The two dman are a wash IMO. Blake is by far the best in the deal and Visnovsky has doen the same thing as McCabe, they both have 51 points and over 10 goals each.

I upgrade on Marchant by gettng maltby.

Doig for Tamer is a wash.

Grant gets those depth players and I get Andrew Alberts, give this one to Grant for the advantage if you want, but I had to do it for cash reasons.

Rathje and Richards is fair compensation for Iginla and Slegr.

Thats how I see it. All around I thin it is a very fair deal.

Well, if we remove some of the junk I guess it boils down to...
  1. Visnovsky, Lubomir (D) NHL
  2. Blake, Rob (D) NHL
  3. Richards, Brad (LW) NHL
  4. Rathje, Mike (D) NHL
FOR
  1. Ohlund, Mattias (D) NHL
  2. McCabe, Bryan (D) NHL
  3. Marchant, Todd (C) NHL
  4. Doig, Jason (D) NHL
  5. Iginla, Jarome (RW) NHL
  6. Slegr, Jiri (D) NHL
I dont know...looks pretty even I guess.

I took away from my forwards and made my defence much stronger. That forward group should still be able to compete with any team in this league.

No I didn't miss anything, just felt like breaking down the trade, something that I do for all my trades.

Here's my breakdown:

I get the best player in the deal with Iggy. I also add two offensive dmen which I was looking to do. However, overall my D takes a hit as I move a 78/77/83 for a 79/78/73. I think Blake/Vish for Ohlund/McCabe is even but I lose on the Rathje/Slegr exchange big time.

Marchant/Maltby is pretty even though Marchant is a pending UFA so give the edge to Dave on that one.

The depth by getting some of those other chumps helps me a bit as I didn't have much in that regards in the event of injuries.

Bottom line - the deal was aimed at dramtically changing the chemistry for both the Wild and Panthers - two teams that have had long-term (25+ games) of around .500 hockey.

What people would be surprised at is how easy it came together. The "first part" (involving Iginla and Richards) was out there for a few days. The rest of it came together in about 20 minutes.

Fun stuff!
