Sharks Player of the Week Nominations
The Sharks played a mere three games this week but they had some excellent performances.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Roman Cechmanek- The Chechmaniac, make that the oft scorned Chechmaniac, silenced his critics this week (welll...at least the intelligent ones!) by making one scintillating save after another. In three games he went 2-1, with a 1.67 GAA 0.943 save %, a 1st star and a 3rd star. Two of the teams played by the 25th place Sharks this week were way ahead of them in the standings...the 13th place Wild and the 10th place Sabres (the 3rd game was against the 29th place Devils). Truly the Chechmaniac keeps the Sharks in the game and then ANYTHING can happen!
Defenseman of the Week
Steve Staios-In three games Staios had 2 A 2 PIM and an incredible FIFTEEN HITS (8 vs the Wild alone!). Teamed with Rookie Shoane Morrisonn, Staios made those trying to park in front of the net pay a dear price. Obtained for his leadership and disciplined play, Staios once again anchored a rapidly improving Sharks defense.
Player of the Week
Boyd Devereaux- Devereaux has been an unheralded "star" for the Sharks over the last two months. This week over three games he had 4A 4PIM 2 Hits and went +3.Solid two way play with continued offensive production has been the result ever since his being placed on the number one line with Vrana and Nilsson.
Rookie of the Week
Petr Vrana-Vrana was obtained fairly recently in The Smolinski trade and in a big part of the Sharks future. The thing is that Vrana has been intent on being a big part of the PRESENT as well! This week, also in three game, he had 3G 1A was +2 and had 2PIM and 4Hits. Vrana came to the Sharks with a reputation as a sniper that was somewhat inattentive to the other aspects of the game. Management has been very pleased by what he brings to the arena everynight and he has been a winner of the game "hard hat award" on several occasions.
