It looks to me like Huska is still trying to figure out lines that have some semblance of chemistry. So far only the Backlund line has gelled at all.

I thought they deserved better after the first.
Can't hang any of the 1st period goals on Wolf, but would have really liked a save on the 2nd goal. As well set up as that PP was by Vegas, I could easily see that was going to happen.
Team quit after the 4-1 goal, so I did too.

The players are basically the same as last year, how long does it take?

Zary is noticeably slower this season. According to NHL Edge, his max. skating speed for each game is as follows:
Game 1 - 20.00mph
Game 2 - 19.84
Game 3 - 19.83
Game 4 - 19.43
Game 5 - 18.97
Game 6 - 18.96
The average for forwards is 21.48mph. Have to wonder whether last season's injuries might have messed with his off-season training.
ETA: It is early and the sample size is small.

They haven't been though, and their positioning has changed. Huberdeau and Pospisil have been out, Gridin and Honzek have been in. Rooney is gone, and whatever anyone thinks about his abilities, he was suited for 4C and they haven't figured out that line yet.
Honzek has taken a spot on Backlund's line. It was Coronato for the vast majority of time last season. Coronato has been with Kadri and Gridin a lot this season, and it didn't work that well.
Zary didn't play C much last year. He usually played wing, either with Kadri, Backlund or Pelletier. They really want him at C so he's been stuck with less desirable linemates.
I think they need to send Kirkland down and sit Lomberg, and bring Gridin back. Then go:
Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato
Honzek-Backlund-Farabee
Klapka-Frost-Sharangovich
Coleman-Zary-Gridin
Lomberg
I know Coleman and Backlund live together but this way you have a vet with Honzek and Gridin, you hopefully have some defensive presence on every line, and you have a spread of passing and shooting on each line.

Yeah if current results continue there is no real reason to always stick with Backlund and Coleman together.
I'm OK with playing Lomberg and rotating some of the low effort guys in and out of the lineup. But you can still move away from the 4th line as an energy line model and start to even out some of the skill.

I'm going to write up the first ten games regardless ... then see where they are.
May move to a weekly summary if things look pretty bleak.

When things get bleak, I avoid the PGTs and exclusively read your game takes as the PGTs become the bleakest of the bleak during those times.
