Seeing some movement

Gridin moves from Team Yellow to Team Red

Battaglia moves from Team Black to Team Yellow

Bell moves from Team Black to Team Yellow

Sergeev moves from Team Black to Team Yellow

Say moves from Team Yellow to Team Black

Team Red and Yellow now have 13 forwards each when on Thursday they had 12 each. Team Black is down to 8 forwards.

Team Red, Yellow and Black maintain having 6 d-men and 2 goalies each.

Team Red 9AM

Team Yellow 11AM

Team Black 1PM

Flames are very high on him, but he needs some pro experience.
There's other guys ready to make the leap offensively, so he's better suited getting more playing time in the AHL.

My guess is he'll be the top pairing with Bruz on the farm this year.

Jeremie Poirier had a good season last year but at 23 years old it's concerning he's on the that third team and not getting in either split game roster on Sunday. Been passed on the perceived prospect depth chart but prospects since and hasn't gotten an NHL game in yet.

He can change that with a good start to the AHL season. The reality is that most of these prospects aren't going to make it as full-time NHL players and a lot of the shiny new prospects likely won't pan out either. We just have to hope a small handful of these prospects hit.

Poirier to me is the most tradable prospect the Flames have. And they should trade him.

Might make sense as a throw-in to balance a trade or a like-for-like prospect swap but I think he has next to no value.

may be a trade can be made for some other waiver-eligible not yet ready prospect

At this point unless, unless there are multiple teams that want to take a flyer on him, a team will just grab him on waivers. Although, almost every team has a Poirier.

I just don't see a future where Poirier plays for the Flames. His player type (offensive D man) ranks him 3rd or 4th on the depth chart behind the likes of BRZ, Parekh and Weegar.

Then you consider that if the Offensive D man spots are locked up he doesn't provide a capable enough defensive game to pair with any of those guys. And the there the left side D. Who does he replace. They're all capable defensive D men paired with the better offensive players

I bet Poirier would like a chance elsewhere as well.

Is there a team out there with too many Centre prospects and not enough D prospects that we can trade with?

Poirier has also really struggled with gap control dating all the way back to his junior days. He needs to be more assertive defensively if ever he wants to make the NHL.

He is simply going to be passed over by players of similar offensive acumen but with a better defensive tool bag (Morin being the perfect example). He was a classic high risk high reward pick as his offensive capabilities are quite solid but the warts in his defensive game are still holding him back from taking the next step.

Kid is still young and has lots of time to grow. Hopefully he does and makes it.. Not entirely convinced that this will occur with the Flames though.

I kind of like it for training camp as they might be working with Gridin this year to use his vision and creativity to pass more--and Kadri will certainly reinforce that.

Isn't Gridin quite balanced offensively (shooting/playmaking)? I think Coronato is an underrated playmaker as well. He creates a lot of turnovers which creates passing opportunities.

I remember the days when being a 23 year old prospect was just the beginning of your development cycle, not the end and made you washed up.

I think there is still significant development value in not having 19-22 year olds playing in the NHL.

maybe they get Cole Schwindt back, or Raphael Lavoie. Two guys Vegas picked off waivers.

Alex Steeves
Hendrix Lapierre
Nick Abruzzese

uninspiring list, but Poirier isn't worth much

^ That would be the kind of trade too otherwise a team will just wait and pluck him off waivers.
