Wow, those possession numbers and the deserve to win % seem off to me.

I think Kadri tends to be the forechecker on line changes and in the second period he has the long change, so if the puck stays in the opposing zone, he stays out a lot.

Impact of Wolf, making the extraordinary look ordinary. The Rangers definitely piled up some chances as the game went along.

It's funny that Backlund and Coleman had their most effective offensive night, but largely didn't really deliver what we typically expect from them.

Wolf was the difference in tonight's game, as he absolutely crushed Shesterkin in the battle of goalies.

You've got to admit, they killed the absolute bejeebers out of that penalty.

A team looks great when they shoot the puck and it goes in.

It's about time that Calgary got a little luck, along with some great goaltending.

They've had a number of games which went against them when the deserve to win meter was 50/50 or close to it.

I just didn't think they lost the possession battle. I knew Wolf made some great saves. But I thought the Flames had the edge in pressure.

I have noticed that those numbers often seem to flatter the losing team.

The team that is losing will often take more risks to generate more opportunities, while the leading team takes a more defensive approach, giving up potential opportunities of their own to avoid giving the trailing team high-risk opportunities.

Yeah score effects is a thing.

But last night it passed the eye test to me too ... I said in the game story that you can't say a goalie stole a 5-1 game but you really get that feel that if Wolf wasn't outstanding in that second period this game wouldn't have ended the way it did.

Super impressed by the evolution of Sam Honzek.

He's becoming a different player than I imagined.

He had size. He had speed. But he seemed like a periphery / support offensive player to me.

But his 200 foot game and positioning is sound, and the big step is a longer fuse when he gets the puck so he's distributing well.

I'm moved his floor up in the last week.

I thought Parekh looked stellar in person. He made some mistakes sure, but he was the best d man to watch live last night on the team. PP1 looks night and day different with him too. He will get used to the pace and take a few less puck handling risks but it’s fine with me for the benefit. He just needs a better partner

Actually the Hanley / Parekh duo has been excellent. Hanley might be exactly the type of defenseman Parekh needs.

The duo is already 4th in ice time together (finally seeing some stability) and an easy first in expected goal splits five on five at 71%.

Hanley is an underrated #6, but likely over his skis as a #4.

I’m not saying he hasn’t been good, Parekh will need a better partner long term is my comment. If we want him to not be third pairing Hanley will reach his limit.

If the long term isn't until next year, there's plenty of time to change the roster. If it happens during this season and they have to find a regular top-4 partner for Parekh… well, that will be a nice problem to have.
