I would of been fine if the Flames made this deal. Decent stop gap. Are the Sharks out of basement tier this year?

Not with that D core, I don't think.
Orlov - Klingberg
Ferraro - Liljegren
Thurn - Desharnais/Thompson
That said there are 2 wildcards in Dickinson and Askarov.
---
As for the signing it seems like a great fit, and I bet they get more assets for him when they trade him in a year and a half.

He's probably got another 3-4 good years in him, so 2 years is no risk at all. Still pretty good at both ends of the ice, and a nice stabilizing presence for their defense. Better than Vlasic at least.
Eklund-Celebrini-Toffoli
Gaudette-Smith-Caldwell*
Kurashev-Wennberg-Gaudette
Dellandrea/Grundstrom-Goodrow-Graf*/Bystedt*
Caldwell has had 2 good seasons in the AHL and could be ready for promotion. Graf looked good in the AHL last year after college. Bystedt has a shot to make a weak roster as well.
Orlov-Liljegren
Leddy-Klingberg
Mukhamadullin-Thompson
Cagnoni*-Ferraro-Desharnais-Thrun
I think Cagnoni is ready for a promotion, looked great last year in the AHL (small though). Ferraro's days might be numbered, as are Thrun's. Muk and Thompson both look ready for full time work.
With Dickinson on the way soon...
Nedeljkovic-Askarov. Ned will be the veteran mentor to share a crease 50/50 with Askarov.
They still have a long way to go, but they're going to be a lot more competitive, especially with the top of the roster talent they have.

eklund - celebrini - smith
Toffoli - Wennberg - Kurashev
Graf - Dellandrea - Gaudette
Goodrow - Ostapchuk - Grunstrom
Ferraro - Leddy
Orlov - Klingberg
Thrun - Liljegren
Askarov
Nedeljkovic
Plus prospects thrown in, especially at D. They should be quite a bit more competitive, although losing Granlund hurts.

That's a really weak bottom 6 though.
Dellandrea had 1 goal in 68 games with the Sharks
Gaudette had a crazy year - was it a fluke?
Grundstrom was terrible and had just 9 points in 56 games
Ostapchuk still young, but just 1 goal in 63 NHL games, and not a big scorer at the AHL level either
Goodrow is done
Graf could still be something but needs to play with better players to see, I think

Yeah it's pretty ugly. Leaving lots of room for young guys. They're still a bottom 5 team most likely.

I think Orlov would have been a target if they were not working on Byram.

They are definitely better than last season on paper. They are still in the basement, however, but they are definitely climbing this year. Solid signing by them.

They likely have last place locked down, nobody is as bad as the Sharks on paper.

He's actually a really good signing. Incredible stamina, almost impossible to injure, reads the opposing players like he could control their minds or something. Plus, how many Transylvanian players are in the NHL? That's cool in itself. It's just too bad he can't suit up for afternoon games.
Oh, wait. I thought you said ‘Orlok’. Please disregard the above message.
