Default Flames Prospect Development at Winsport

Looks like there are 2 ice times booked at Winsport under Calgary Flames prospect development

Aug 14 @ 9 am
Aug 15 @ 11 am

Thought I’d create a thread to discuss

Anyone have any further info?

Must be informal skating.

Rookie camp doesn't typically start for another 3-4 weeks.

Might be some player skates.
I know a few guys have returned to town for the season.

The "Captain's Skate" -- which incidentally was invented by none other than Connor McDavid -- is later in the month.

Was nearby so popped in. Small group, 6 skaters and 2 goalies

I believe it was Grushnikov, Frk, Kirkland, Hunt, and it looked like Sam Morton and Carter Wilkie

Devin Cooley and Dusty Nickel were in net

Looks like Kirkland may be #23 this year.

Frk had 93 on his helmet. He is a shooter, that’s for sure. Also they were doing a drill where they go 1 on 1 coming out of the corner, he went roof with just his bottom hand while shielding the D with his top hand

Yup. They’ve had skates right since dev camp ended. Not enough guys to have great skates though so Carter went down to Denver where there are a couple of dozen NHL’ers that train at DU through August.

Saw a bit today too. Some 3 on 3 cross ice in the zone. Believe it was Grushnikov, Hunt and Lombo, looked like the other side was Kirkland, Weegar (I think, I was up top) and some guy in European league pants

If you have ever asked yourself, “I wonder if Lombo can execute a Michigan”

The answer is yes

Cooley is going to take the back up spot and hold it this year.

I dont want to make a whole new thread, in light of the young stars classic being cancelled, I had thought I saw someone on calgarypuck say that they were doing a prospects game with the oilers instead, but cant seem to find who said this or when it may be.

Does anyone have any more information?

Think Tacoman said it was Sept 12 in Edmonton and Sept 14 in Calgary?

Are the sessions at Winsport quite regular?

I'll be in Calgary in a few days and have some family coming in from Niagara Falls for vacation. It would be cool to take my cousin's little son to check this out, he's already got a Flames jersey so I'm trying to cement his fandom.

Yes they’ve been quite regular but at random.
Should increase over the next few weeks!
