Default 2028 World Cup of Hockey Host City Search

NHL announced they have started the search for host city of the 2028 World Cup. What are the chances Calgary and Edmonton make a joint bid? Both cities will have new buildings and are close together so travel won't be an issue. I believe Calgary hosted games in the 87 Canada Cup, would love if they could do it again.

They should put it in the middle of nowhere like Moose Jaw.

It should be in Europe. It means more to them than it does to us.

I wonder if Calgary can host it on its own, given that the new arena will be up by then. If need be, you can keep the Saddledome running until after that event, then demolish it. I guess the question would be if Calgary could sell enough tickets to fill both buildings. Seems like a last 'hurrah' would be great to help usher in the new building, while saying goodbye to the old. Probably not feasible, but if it could be, then that would be perfect.

I think Calgary stands a good chance with the new arena, but with how successful the 4 Nations was in the US I think they’d want a Canadian/American split again, or just US.

Calgary/Minneapolis? Calgary/Seattle? Vancouver in theory makes more sense with Seattle, but flight times are basically the same as Toronto/Boston if it’s Calgary.

Interesting that they’re open to Europe/International locations. I would think that’d hurt viewership.

It would also help 'grow the game' globally which the NHL always drones on about. Unfortunately they only want to grow the game in southern US markets so it'll probably be in Florida.

Wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta throws their name in there to get that additional push across the finish line.

2 cities...Calgary and NOT Edmonton ....good enough.

Nicotine, mud, mullets , gravy stained wife beaters and Kacz ....is this enough of a reason to wipe Edmonton from the discussions

I see nothing wrong with a Calgary/Edmonton bid. That would be a strong bid, especially with the Flames' new facility being front and centre at that time.

They'll probably go with Florida, SoCal, Vegas, or NY.

In Canada, probably Ontario or Quebec would be the first choices. It would actually be a cool idea to pick Quebec with some games played in Quebec City.
