Flames The 2025 Offseason thread.

Might as well get this started. Time to discuss things you want to see, speculation on player movement, draft talk, whatever floats your boat.

Draft will be fun with 2 first rounders.
I think Rasmus goes in the off-season for sure.
The summer is always fun.

Have been one of the biggest Rasmus boosters over the years but describing this season as frustrating would put it lightly. -37 is bad.. really bad. He's doubly bad than the next Flame.

Honestly curious to see how Conroy handles free agency and the cap space. This retool is going to need some additional goal scoring and NHL calibre D

Flames win the lottery, pick 6th overall.
Devils out round one, Flames pick 18th overall.
Panthers win the cup, Canadiens pick 32nd overall.

24/25 can eff right off as far as i'm concerned.

Playoff chase was fun, but falling short and landing right in the mushy middle just kinda feels like Flames. Like, where was this effort the past few seasons when they actually had talent? Now, when we really don't want to be good and certainly don't have the horses to carry us into the playoffs, the team suddenly finds it's balls? Get the eff outta here with that BS.

Mushy freakin' middle. This team might as well call themselves the Calgary Averages. Hell, the logo itself is a big flaming "C".

They need to get younger. Andersson should be #1 to go and Coleman should be on the block. They should look at if Kadri wants to move, the issue is if we draft a young g center we can’t Bedard them right away.

Cap space is plenty for teams so we won’t be in the retention game. So the cap should be used to sign the young pieces.

You will still have vets around and guys like Frost and Farabee are getting older and will take the veteran leadership of the team.

Get more picks and assets and stay away from dealing picks even if a Frost and Farabee come up. The team has enough middle 6 talent. They need top line players and stars and the only way we will get them is by drafting them.

You can’t be caught by this one off season like they did in 14/15. This team isn’t close at all. I’m sure pressure will come from the guy above but once we strike out in free agency hopefully they come to the realization this isn’t a quick fix. 25/26/27 draft load up.

I really hoped Calgary would make the playoffs, then Huska would win the Jack Adams and be done after next season.

It would be nice to see them give Frost a dynamic winger.

Let's be real, with the Flames' luck, the most likely scenario is:

Flames stay at 16.
Devils win the Cup, Flames pick 32nd overall.
Panthers knocked out round one.

Isn't it better for the Flames of the Panthers get knocked out early, as they get the Panthers' pick?

Rooney needs to go, we have too many "good" players now.

Kadri, Huberdeau, Klapka
Sharangovich, Frost, Pospisil
Coleman, Backlund, Coronato
Lomberg, Zary?, Farabee

We've got Kirkland for a good 4th line player / shootout specialist to get in and if we want to save some room for some of the young kids to have a chance like Honzek..

Yeah, if we traded him last off season we likely could have got a haul. GM's will hyper analyze this season if they're going to give up serious assets for him and I don't think the results will be what fans are imagining. At this point I'd just keep him into next season and hope it's a sellers market at next years deadline and Andersson recovers from that terrible season.

Hockey gods gave us Tkachuk at 6th overall when there was no way he should have been there. We got a true superstar that draft.

Except that he never likely wanted to stay in Canada, and he was turned into Huberdeau who, after signing a massive contract, set a record for biggest drop off in points between seasons.

Out:
Andersson
Rooney
Bean
Miromanov
Hanley
Coleman (either offseason or deadline)

Demoted:
Pospisil (he should be a 4th line player with Lomberg)

In:
Parekh
Klapka
Kerins
Solvoyov
Kuznetsov

On the Cusp:
Honzek
Brzustewicz

Keep a space for a surprising prospect or two. UFA will be very interesting.

I strongly think the team improves next year from what we saw this year and will be fighting for playoffs all year, if not more comfortably in.
