Jonathan Toews Planning Return to NHL
Good for him. Crappy way to end things.
Quote:
Free agent centre Jonathan Toews is 100 per cent committed to coming back to the NHL next season, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.
LeBrun says Toews reached out to his agent Pat Brisson yesterday to inform him he is ready for an NHL comeback. He adds that Brisson will start taking calls from NHL teams on Toews leading up to July 1.
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger notes that Toews is expected to have a "long list" of suitors, but notes the Winnipeg Jets will be front and centre when the time comes. He notes the Jets pursued pending unrestricted free agent Brock Nelson ahead of the trade deadline, before he ultimately chose to go to Colorado and Toews could now fill the team's search for a second-line centre.
|
Quote:
The 37-year-old is attempting a return to the NHL after he announced he was stepping away from the game when his contract with the Chicago Blackhawks expired after the 2022-23 campaign.
The 6-foot-2 centre recorded 15 goals and 31 points in 53 games with the Blackhawks during the 2022-23 campaign and was trying to recover from the effects of long COVID and chronic immune response syndrome.

I don't know why but I never really cared for him. I didn't hate him, I just didn't care for him. I recognize that he was good but I feel like he was overrated. That said I would have loved to have him on the Flames.
Also, at his age and having been gone for so long I'm skeptical how much luck he'll have finding a job or at least a semi regular spot in a lineup. He's probably aware that he may be the 13th forward.

I always liked Toews but...is it really rational to expect him to be a second-line centre at 37 after a couple years out of the game?
I dont even remember why he stepped away.
Either way, it should be interesting.

I know why I didn't like Toews, he and the Murderland Hawks kept on caving in the Flames' heads for years all the while laughing at them.

I wish him all the best in his comeback. Just not sure how many teams would be desperate enough to offer him a contract given his past health troubles.

He doesn't have the shady past to play for Edmonton.

Maybe there is a team who is desperate enough to sign a "legend" (I use that term loosely) to a contract but I'd wager that most GMs would only offer a PTO if Toews agent came to them asking about interest.

Quite the treatment.
Toews 100% committed to NHL comeback next season
https://thescore.com/nhl/news/3293294
"Toews' recovery included a trip to India where he underwent a five-week detox through a holistic form of alternative medicine known as Ayurveda that involved intense massages, induced vomiting, and enemas."

That can't be true.
What?
And I thought Winnipeg was weird...
