That's a contract signed to be traded if I've ever seen one

Is naming your kid a misspelled version of "Maverick" also a trend amongst French Canadians?

He hasn't done a heck of a lot, so a show-me deal sounds about right. I am not sure why he gets fawned over so much around here. All the talk about offersheeting him to overpay and give up draft picks was weird.

Just part of the continuing trend to have people spell your kids name incorrectly for their whole life.

He was fairly highly toughted before his draft, ended up sliding to 30th overall to Dallas which seemed a bit of a surprise. (Think consensus was he was ranked in the teens?)

So many feel there may be more there, but he hasn't really been given much opportunity in Dallas, limited 4th line minutes or healthy scratched.

Dallas might want to keep him and give him a lot more opportunity if they need to shed more cap off the roster.

He had as many points as Frost and Farabee getting 4th line minutes.

Gotta think they talked to him into a long term extension January 1st.

If not, then that’s a big miss on Bourque. Could’ve at least forced Dallas to sign him to a 3rd round compensation contract.

Aw. That's too bad. I am a little surprised that he did not wait until July 1st to see what offer sheets might come his way. I guess that speaks to how much he likes it with the Stars.

$2.3M definitely would have been a successful offer-sheet.

100% this.

Protects them from the offer sheet and allows them to make a deal that works for the Stars. And in a year, Bourque.

He'll be moved.

Not really TBH.

It's a contract you see an unproven RFA that hasn't proven himself at the NHL level get when he wants to stay on the team he's on.

Bourque hasn't really proven himself to get much more than $1.5M on a contract right now on the short term.

Dallas isn't in a position to sign him long term and need contracts like this to fill out their roster.

To me this means he's not getting traded and he's getting a 1 year deal to prove himself worth more and help them fill out the roster.

If they were trading him he probably holds more value as an RFA where the team acquiring him can try to lock him up longer term on more of a value deal, than on a 1 year deal.

offer sheet protection and kick the can down the road, when they have a bit more flexibility.

Surprised Bourque signed this.
Nice move Nill.

Boo for CGY. Thought he would be a nice RS C option with upside that could be had for cheap.
