OMG, had not heard anything.
This is right by my house. There was a Phillipino festival going on today.

Awful, awful news. Reminder that misinformation breeds quickly in these situations and the people who are claiming minutes after this happened that they know exactly what the issue is and what action needs to be taken don't actually have any idea.

That's awful. Filipinos are some of the nicest people on Earth. I hope this wasn't a hate crime.

Awful. I can't see how this was accidental. It looks like the SUV plowed through a narrow area between two rows of food trucks.

Early reports are upwards of 20 casualties. Unbelievable.

I read somewhere that it was a DUI and not terrorism related, but obviously pure speculation at the moment.

Absolutely shocking, what a tragic way to end the day.

The police are going to be doing a media scrum at midnight, so we should get more details about the casualties and maybe the driver.

This is a tragedy, I always thought we would just get by.

FYI Jagmeet Singh was at the festival

This sounds eerily similar to that incident in Toronto a few years back.

I just listened to the media availability with the police and they didn't offer much more than what was already reported. The suspect is a 30 year old male who was known to police "in certain circumstances". They wouldn't answer whether the suspect had a criminal record, was out on bail, or had mental health issues. They said that they don't believe there is a current threat to the community.

They wouldn't speculate on the motive or number of casualties. Victims were taken to multiple hospitals around the region so they don't know how many died so far and it would be unfair to the families waiting to hear news if they released any numbers before the families are informed.

9 people were killed

Filipino community festival was wrapping up when SUV#plowed#into crowd.
Suspect held by festival-goers until police arrived: chief.
Eyewitness says driver "just slammed the pedal down and rammed into hundreds of people."

Vancouver#Coastal Health told The Canadian Press it had confirmed a "code orange," indicating a mass casualty event. The health authority was not able to confirm the number of injured or dead as of late Saturday night, but shortly after 3 a.m. local time Sunday, Vancouver police said on social media#that there were#nine fatalities.

My guess is this is a spousal dispute turned extremely ugly.

This is just so brutal. That festival was likely filled with families.

Global news this morning is reporting the suspect is known to police and sources say they have mental illness issues.

Saying known to police "in certain circumstances" and they are investigation whether there were mental health issues.

It seems like whoever did this has a personal connection of some kind. And the fact that terrorism is being rules out suggests it wasn't racially motivated.

I saw a video supposedly of the suspect in handcuffs.
I can't confirm it was 100% him, but it looked legitimate and he looked Phillipino himself.
