Default Printer suggestions

Hey I did a quick search the last relevant post topic was from 2022, so I figured I'd start a new thread.

Looking to pick up a colour printer that can print larger dimensions, like above the standard 8x5x11. I pay 10-25 bucks per map for dnd to print at Staples right now and I feel like I've already bought a printers worth. My kids also always have stuff they want to print for school, games, colouring etc..

Wondering if anyone has a suggestion they've worked with that they like.

This is for home use, kids stuff, dnd maps, general personal use etc..

No suggestions unfortunately, but what size are you looking to target?

Google tells me there are different classification for sizes, I don’t think I need a tabloid size that seems like overkill. However it does appear that most home printers aren’t capable of handling like a 11x20 or something of that nature.

So maybe my best bet is just the best quality for price home printer and cutting my images up to print on more pages, then I can tape them on to a big piece of cardboard or something

There might be somewhere that'll do it for cheaper than Staples too.

This is cheap enough might be worth a try: https://epson.ca/For-Work/Printers/I...r/p/C11CH70201

There's an HP OfficeJet 7612 for $100 on Facebook that'll also do 13x19.

There's been several times in my life I've been offered a large plotter for free.. I have no use for it, but I regret not taking it each time just because they're cool. Imagine the maps you could print then!

The problem with large plotters is they are expensive to run and maintain. I just had to do $3k in repairs on our ink system. If that one is $100, there is probably a reason or 1500 single ones.

I'm not sure about print sizes but I would be wary of any kind of HP product given their shenanigans with ink DRM. Does Brother make anything that fits your requirements?

Tabloid is 11"×17".
You may print 25 colour pages or 50 black and white (including tabloid) per calendar month for free at the Calgary Public Library for each library card.
Laser quality

11x17 is the most common bigger size you'll find in a home printer. Brother makes a few and there should be a few that have a back feed for paper as its just a doubly long letter size.

I used to rep for Epson up to just before covid and they have/had a great quality color printer we used to sell to pro photo people, wedding photographers etc. I think it did up to 11x17 or more. Sounds more what you are looking for. They are the kings of photo quality, larger size printers. You may have to look around as they are not sold in the big box stores or at least were not when I was there.

Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 will print up to 13x19" borderless.
Looks pretty good, maybe. Here is rtings review.

There are about $600 here in US, from Amazon. Probably about as entry level but still decent as you can get
Good luck
