Post Dominik Hasek says he received death threats from former Russian president

Paywall.

Quote:
This week, Hasek said he’s received death threats from former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, who is currently deputy head of Russia’s security council chaired by Vladimir Putin.
Quote:
“Today I sent 2 official letters,” Hasek wrote on X. “One to the @iocmedia President and the members of the Executive Board. And the other to the @IIHFHockey President and the members of the Council. I inform them that former Russian President Medvedev threatened to kill me.
Quote:
After Ovechkin broke the record, Medvedev was quoted by the Associated Press as saying Hasek’s suicide could be expected.
I know a portion of you will say keep politics out of hockey, but Hasek is arguably the greatest goalie of all time and his life was just threatened. This is an important hockey story.

Everyone should have the freedom to speak out against any government and not be threatened. Wayne has chosen to support Trump's regime publicly, but no one has threatened his life over it.

CBC also has a write-up on it.

Czech leaders have condemned apparent threats made by a former Russian president and prime minister against NHL great Dominik Hasek for his critical stance of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Medvedev, who is now deputy head of Russia's Security Council, said the Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender suffered from "Russophobia" and suggested he see a psychiatrist.

In remarks made through his assistant Oleg Osipov and published by the TASS news agency on Tuesday, Medvedev also urged Hasek to be careful while crossing roads and when having a beer in unfamiliar places.

Russia loves people falling out of windows or having heart attacks.
Terrifying country.

‘You have this irrational fear of us, and if you don’t stop it, we’ll kill you.’

Seems to me Hasek needs a bodyguard much more than a psychiatrist.
