So I got the urge to start playing my old Sim City 3000 again, and the only thing is running on my laptop the cd rom really seems to hamper the game. You have to have the CD in to play, but it seems to stall quite a bit waiting for the CD drive to draw the buildings. I'm guessing this is an OS thing (i'm running XP and XP didn't exist when it was made), because the drive i'm running it with is waayyyy faster than the old computer I had.

So my question: Is there a way to copy the CD to my hard drive and trick the game to look there instead so it isn't so slow?

You might be able to find a no CD crack somewhere. But be careful, when searching for that kind of thing I always run into alot of trojan's and crap.

I have a good site for you, but probably can't say it on this board. E-mail me at BlackArcher101@gmail.com

If you have a program to create a perfect CD Image, then you can use a program called Alcohol 120% to mount the image as a virtual drive. There is a trial version that you can use, and I think it works indefinately, but some of the features are disabled.

Alcohol 120% may even make CD images (it looks like it does), but I have never tried it.

I use the program for mounting DVD images, and it works nicely.

Get Daemon.

It's the first download. It's a virtual cd/dvd-rom emulator.

I've used fakecd for years for this exact purpose. I see there is a new version now though, fakedr

Can you change the compatibility options of the game to make it run as if in a different OS? Otherwise I have used Alcohol 110% or Nero for this before.
