Default Sold

I have a 2015 CRV Touring (highest trim level) for sale. The backstory is it's driven by my son, and the engine light came on. The diagnosis from the mechanic and the 270KM on it are causing me to sell. The engine runs, but it sounds rough when revved and they think there's damage - recommended a rebuild/replacement. Aside from the engine, everything else is working fine and it's been regularly maintained (it was my car until 2020). It has new glass last year, and right now it's on winters that are a year and a half old. I can give full maintenance history.

I want to sell it to someone who figures they can rebuild or replace the engine themselves and end up with a car worth IMO around $10-11K. I don't want to sell to to a junk dealer or for parts because I think it's worth more to the right buyer. I hear those cash for cars guys are sharks.

I will update with a price once I look at the market but I will field offers for now.

Sold. It went within a half day.

I gave my Audi to my mechanic neighbor. Would rumble and was geeked when revving. Turns out it was just fouled spark plugs. Audi had me quoted for $10k and he did it for $50. His gain because I wanted no part in spending that on a $5k car.

Yeah, did you scan the codes? Could be as simple as vacuum leak. What did you mechanic say the exact problem was?

Check engine light, sounds rough. My kid took it to the mechanics used by the firm he drives for - they seem OK to me. They said they detected glitter (ie metal) in the oil pan and suspect as driven with low oil (but didn’t see any leak and the oil life monitor was OK). Of course, they would charge market rate for the rebuild. Which is expensive - I’ve had another one done under warranty and I know how much it would have cost.

At this point I’m happy to sell to someone who thinks they can make me a better offer than salvage because they intend to do the work themselves.
