On LTI, hopes to be back for playoffs (a la Mark Stone).

hurt during the 4 nations? if so - that could be an ongoing issue/discussion point trying to revive the tournament in the future.

I think Coleman could be a good fit for the Panthers, especially with retention. Obviously not a replacement for Tkachuk, but a good fit overall.

Would be a bit like an ex Oiler going to the Flames, but would add another fun layer to a FLA TBL matchup.

Smart to have a staged fight in an exhibition game.

This was an NHL organized event. This was no different than 3 extra regular season games

I mean... I don't think there was a single player in that tournament who thought of them as exhibition games.

Hopefully this causes the Panthers to drop some spots in the standings to improve that pick by a few spots

Forsberg missed an entire regular season after finishing game 7 of the conference finals with a ruptured spleen. Also had a couple angle surgeries.

Came back for game one of the playoffs and was the leading scorer by the time the playoffs were over (even though they were eliminated in the third round).

Mind you, that was before the cap so there was literally zero reason to do it other than to just maximize recovery time.

Maybe not smart for himself or his club team, but that tournament drastically increased hockey viewership in the States, and it had the entire sports media world buzzing about how incredible the tournament was from both an entertainment and competitiveness standpoint.

Matthew Tkachuk is a fantastic brand rep for hockey. Like him or not, he's good for the sport.

They had a quote during the game on Saturday. He told Leslie and Francis he is not a hockey player he is a entertainer.

Still don't think the Panthers are too happy about this.

No, probably not. But they have enough talent to absorb the loss until the playoffs. The only thing it will affect is their playoff seeding.

I wonder how many GM's and teams would want this tournament happening mid-season. If you get this injury in September vs when you are in the thick of a playoff battle.

The Avs made all these moves, if they lost Mackinnon or Makar that would be brutal.

It was incredibly popular and viewed by a lot of people, too early to tell if it increased viewership in the US on an ongoing basis. That’s going to take more than 2 fun games IMO.

Still not too worried about any effect of Tkachuk’s injury. He will be back for the playoffs and his team now has flexibility to add payroll.

It’s crazy that they can announce with such certainty that he will be out through April 17. Not really even trying to hide the cap manipulation. Any other sport he would be out for several weeks and then they’d try to work him back into the lineup when healthy.
