Beyond the Boxscore: Flames get back to work in an impressive victory over the Capitals
It’s a Team Game – Calgary put a rough first game behind them and kicked the road trip off in style. They played fairly even hockey with the Capitals to start the game, but after the first goal started to pile on the pressure.
Throwback Tuesday: Looking at the five Flames trades on February 28
This season’s trade deadline is just 10 days away on Mar. 7 and the Flames may not be all that active at this season’s deadline. Still, it’s that time of the year when teams make moves.
Interestingly, Friday will mark the anniversary of five trades, three of them being meaningful to the Flames. Let’s take a look at those five trades in the latest edition of Throwback Tuesday!
Instant Reaction: Flames open gauntlet trip with big win in Washington
The Calgary Flames began a crucial stretch of their 2024-25 season on Tuesday night when they visited the Washington Capitals, the top team in the Eastern Conference. They didn’t play a perfect road game, but they played a superb first 20 minutes and then played well enough to hold onto their lead.
The Flames opened their six-game “gauntlet” road trip with a 3-1 win over the Capitals.
Artem Grushnikov has found success in first full season as a Wrangler
You can never have too many defence prospects.
One such prospect, Artem Grushnikov, was acquired before the 2024 trade deadline from the Dallas Stars. Selected by the Stars 48th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, the left-shot defenceman got his first taste of North American hockey early, joining the Ontario Hockey League’s Hamilton Bulldogs for the 2021-22 season.
Flames GM Craig Conroy not looking for rentals at the trade deadline
“If we won the next (six) games, maybe we’d be out there for a rental but the mindset has always been we’d do something if it helps in the long-term, not just the short-term,” Conroy said in an interview with Postmedia this weekend.
Breaking down the Calgary Flames’ defensive pairings: Who’s thriving and who’s struggling?
The Calgary Flames defence pairings have featured a whopping nine different defenders already in 2024–25, mixing and matching a multitude of different pairings. With the blueline group finally all healthy with the return of Kevin Bahl, Ryan Huska will have to determine how he wishes to line up on the backend.

Bring the 4th line grind mentality again and make it hard for Tampa in their own rink. Go Flames!

One thing I have to say is that Martin Pospisil might not get enough credit for his play even when he's not scoring.
His presence being added to the 4th line has pretty much changed that line from being a black hole to actually being effective.
If a line is struggling you seem to be able to put him on the line and it instantly improves.

Tampa’s first real opponent since the 4 Nations breaks. Real test for them!

Playing on the road? In Tampa Bay? Seems like a scheduled loss to me.*
*Hey, it worked the last time, right?

It worked last game, so...
I ask Jobu to come, take fear from sticks. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.

Be nice to see them sweep this road trip and really stick it to the "wasted season" crowd.

Win baby win. I hate the Bolts . Have since 0304. Gotta get 2 pts.
Jobu we pray to curse the sticks of the lighting...may their passes be turnovers . May Blake Coleman get a hatty, Raz gets to share the stare of death several times.
May we crush our enemies and hear the lamenting of their fans and NO celebrations.
May Espo be cursing under his Breath....when...when will this end FFS. And Michkins head explode when no goals are scored.
May the W be served up delicious by AAWWOOOOOO!!! THE WOLFMAN ....I AM THE WOLFMAN ....HILARIOUS house of frankenstein style.
May this roadie comtinue with points to feed the SNEK.

I really like popsicle. He adds the unsung value.
Hard forechecking. Retrieving pucks. Physical play. Getting under opponents skin.
Those guys never get any credit but you can’t win without them. Not every player can be fancy if you want to win. Especially come playoff time.

There is no wasted season crowd. It is 1 poster who thinks Dylan Strome would have turned our fortunes.
