Totally missed this last month, Kirkland has moved to number 23. It still just screams Monahan to me and I understand that few numbers are sacred but it looks weird.

Elite Prospects has him at 6'5", 203 pounds. Heavy even for a tall goalie. Hope he has good mobility.

Cooley never disappoints. They guy opens his mouth and just vomits positivity. Love it

I went for the middle skate yesterday courtesy of my Flames ticket rep but not much to report. Mostly cycle and rush drills. Some systems work. Was hoping to see Carter but alas he hasn’t had his shot yet. Maybe after Sundays games they’ll have some movement amongst the centers. He’s keeping a positive attitude which I’m proud of.

I think even if it's not his time yet, he'll still look great in the AHL and definitely get some chances at some point..

I want him to really find his groove and make the team. First off, for the interviews. They are just so great. Second, he must be amazing to have around the room. Plus it's nice to see a good guy find success.

That competition for the bottom pair on defense is going to be fierce this year. Lots of guys on their last chance before waivers, one very high end prospect, some established veterans who were pretty solid last year.

It's an even more important competition knowing that Rasmus could be traded at any point. One of those guys will likely get brought up if they don't make the team out of camp. I'm watching all those guys pretty closely in pre-season games.

I didn't watch too much KHL, but he is pretty rigid out there. Very, very similar to Markstrom IMO. Pretty good when he gets set, he takes a lot of the net and doesn't give shooters much to shoot at. He's very good at getting anything along the ice, and making the lower-mid danger chances, high danger chances will likely end up in the back of the net.

Here was him against the likes of Marchenko and Panarin from point-blank a couple of years back:

That said, if the Flames manage to limit the east to west passes and rush chances against, then I think he will do just fine.

Yeah, he is a bit slow on those long shots, it seems.

Team Black lines:

Battaglia-King-Laing
Gallant-Silye-Wilkie
McCann-Brisson-Lavigne

Defensive pairings were a bit of a churn. Murphy and Sergeev the goalies.
