Default Kraken 3 Flames 2 (OT)

Kraken 3 Flames 2 (OT)

- Flames lose their third in a row and 6 of their last 8
- Wolf was amazing through 52 minutes
- Sketchy OT penalty on Frost

Definitely agree with the Backlund argument you posit. I would even take it a step further and say that if it wasn't for Backlund taking the tougher minutes, the other two top 9 centers would have more difficulty generating offence.

It was nice to see the 4th line having that big bump. I wonder if Huska keeps them together after the break.

Regarding Backlund: both sides of the argument can be right, here. Yes, he and Coleman do the heavy lifting against elite opposition. Great! They're good at it. Let them keep doing it. But they can do that from the 4th line, so put a two-way winger with them - not Coronato - and leave them to that role (with reduced minutes). And build 3 lines that can generate offense.

?????? - Zary - Coronato (could be a C with Zary on the wing)
?????? - Frost - Farabee
Huberdeau - Kadri - Sharangovich
Coleman - Backlund - Pospisil

They need 2 more forwards, to have a really solid 4 lines - maybe Honzek and/or Stromgren are ready to take a step? Maybe they look outside the organization? Maybe guys like Gridin or Suniev surprise at camp?

The time to embrace the youth and give them the team and let them run with it, is fast approaching. The veterans can take smaller roles, but still be here for leadership and solidity.

(I am talking more for next year, as I don't think anyone is ready yet)

I think that's a natural progression for sure.

Could be next season, could be the one after that.

But it's not now.

Yeah so long as you’re the best center against elite opposition, whatever line you’re centering is not the 4th line. By definition, you’re going to get a lot of ice time.

Crosby once said Backlund was one of the hardest Centers he's ever played against. I'm assuming he meant defensively. Point is he is a beast.
