I'm sure this will not be the popular opinion but this actually is a very solid deal for the player Marcus Pettersson is and has been, especially given cap projections. Pretty big step in justifying the Miller deal as far as cap reallocation. They still need one of Chytil or Mancini to become a good roster player for them but this is a solid start to justifying that trade.

Yeah that's a good AAV for the player and decent length especially with where the cap is going

This is what happens when you spend too much on a fairly pedestrian and mediocre upcoming UFA - you give that UFA complete leverage.

I'm sure this will make his brothers Elias and Elias happy.

...

All Swedish people with the same last name are brothers, right? I asked Henrik and Daniel and they said they were.

It sounds about right for him, so it shouldn't be too unpopular of an opinion.

Other than the fact that VAN is no good, of course.

As for this half of your post though, the bottom line is that VAN traded one very good player, for two decent players. And that's not a good trade, when you are in your window.

I know, they had little choice, and they did the best they could. But the team isn't as good as it was, as a result.

I think that Miller is a declining asset though and one who the team wasn't winning with. Their defense has been brutal and this provides them with a solid top 3 defenders. Hughes obviously is one of the best in the world, Hronek is a solid defender, and Pettersson is solid by all accounts. Having someone to push Juulson down the lineup is good. If they can have a prospect break through like Willander I think that they will be set for a couple of years and maybe be able to make a push for Hughes to re-sign.

Their offense took a definite hit though.

I don't think they are winning now either

Probably not. But I think that it is easier to replace Miller's offensive production than it is to find a top 4 defenseman.

90 pt C's are easier to find than top 4 D? (his avg as a Canuck if i heard correctly)

Not arguing they shouldnt have traded Miller, because there was really no other option.

But to suggest he is easier to replace than a 2nd pairing D.....is pure spin.
