Default RIP Paul Morris

Yes, I know it's a Flames forum, but since it was usually the Leafs on CBC, hard to believe many fans, especially in the Leafs playoff runs in the 90s, wouldn't recognize his voice, even if they didn't know his name.

Was the Leafs PA announcer for 38 years, and worked more than 1500 straight games at one point. Was replaced by Andy Frost in 1999.

Died at the age of 86.

Loved this guy. Just announced the announcements and wasn't yelling, screaming, and playing whooping recordings at fans to rile them up. A classic, different era.

RIP

Claude Mouton at the old Montreal Forum was hilarious.

"La troisième étoile, dey turd star... la deuxième étoile, dey seKOND star... la première étoile, dey FIRST STAR"

Anglo names like Larry Robinson and Ken Dryden were delivered in a flat monotone while Francophone stars like "GUY... LAFLEUR!!!" burst forth in orgasmic excitement."

I liked Paul Morris. It was such a calm and classic voice. When they brought in Andy Frost it was a bit of a shift. He wasn't bad but his after hours radio show was brutal. He'd be rude and condescending to anyone who went against the Leafs in any way. Paul Morris was nice to hear and they still have his voice announcing one minute left in the period. It's a nice touch.

He had a bit of a way to sound only slightly excited when something significantly good happened for Toronto. Just seemed so professional to me. A magnificent career, to be sure.

Wow, just you tubed a couple of clips of him. It sure took me back fifty years as a kid watching hockey games Saturday night. Back then it was either the leafs or habs each week, the odd time a canucks game. I distinctly remember watching Darryl Sittlers ten point game one Saturday evening. There would've been a lot of Paul Morris that night.

Morris had a monotone voice when doing the announcements. No excitement whatsoever in his voice.
