Its the Oilers of international play. Top heavy, questionable bottom 4 D, likely to be sunk by goaltending.

McDavid will get injured and the whole tournament will become an inquiry into how they could let it happen

I'm not sure if they'll win, but I think they have a good shot at the finals. Sweden's core isn't really firing on all cylinders and Finland is gutted. Wednesday's game will probably be pretty massive. My guess is the winner of Canada/Sweden will end up getting to the finals.

I will say team Canada is likely the deepest at centre. I mean, they have McKinnon playing wing in this setup - which could see happening. It is interesting that they kind built the 4th line to be a 4th line instead of being a line that would pass for a top line on most NHL teams - which they could have done if they wanted to.

Swap Mackinnon for Point. Mackinnon should be a center IMO. Point would be insanely dangerous on Crosby's wing with his speed and skill and MacKinnon can drive his own line. Swap Bennett for Marchand just based on style of play. I'd also elevate Morrissey into Theodore's spot...he should be playing top 4 minutes.

Two questions,

1. Is there a trade freeze for this
2. When is it over?

As is tradition for Team Canada. Gotta take those grinders.

1.No there isn't. Friedman, in his latest 32 thoughts even mentioned that he even talked to a player that was under the impression he's getting moved during the 4 nations.

2. The tournament ends Feb 20th. The NHL gets back on the 22nd, the Flames first game back in on the 23rd.

I never paid attention early on as to where the idea for this came from, but I think it should have been something like Scandinavia or northern Europe team, instead of separate Sweden and Finnish teams, and then a south/east Europe team, which could have had future HoF players like Kopitar and players if there were allowed from a country ran/ruined by a asshat, so a couple of the top NHL scorers might be in it that currently are not playing.

It's an Olympic preview so these 4 teams want to see how they stack up one year before. Remember, these teams haven't been fully put together since 2016.

I couldn't disagree more!

The European players take pride in playing for their country as much as Canadians do. Those teams have as much history, and as many fans as the Canadian team. Moreover, the WCs/Olympics are a much bigger deal in Europe than the NHL itself. The majority of Swedes are going to watch Sweden play, the same goes for Finland. I doubt they would have the same interest in team Europe, playing alongside their bitter rivals.

Whenever I think about the core the flames had a couple years ago and get sad, I just remind myself how unreal the Sabres could look with Reinhart, Eichel on their top line.
Montour would look good on their second pair too.

My $0.02: We should have a Canadian flag icon added to the options when creating a thread. Very fitting for Olympics and tournaments such as this.

I don't think they measure up to the 1987 Canada Cup: Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Bourque, Coffey
