"I hate the Calgary Flames and never wish to see them succeed." - That part surprised me.

Kept scrolling but the interview was over after 4 questions.

Probably was told not to mention the team and R word.

That's what Murray Edwards looks like? I leg wrestled that guy at the Glencoe Club last year. I won, too.

I didn't realize he was the second longest tenured owner in the NHL.

Flames fan's around the world hoping, praying, arguing everywhere about winning, cup runs, UFA's and line combo's.

Owner of the team: We need more dollars, more USA based teams, we needed another arena for more $$ and more.

Zero mentions of anything related to related actually winning, putting together an organization that is focused on a championship or anything related to what your typical fan wants.

This interview belongs in Fortune Magazine and not the Hockey News. Other owners in sports at least mention and discuss a desire for the ultimate prize.

Like in the movie The Rock and Sean Connery: Losers whine, winners go home with the prom queen.

Think you're seeing what you want to see there

He answered the questions put to him, and did talk about the great 2004 run and how it's disappointing when the team doesn't compete.

Owner looks at it as a business..

Fans look at it in terms of championships...

I am glad he's more committed to a few losing years, even though the Flames have had a decent year it hasn't been by design. Murray Edwards probably got too convinced we had a core that could win after 2004, but much like us, I think he's starting to come around to the fact that you need some lean years to build assets to win, not just spend to the cap

What in the...? Did you read the questions? Heck, did you even read the responses?

What about: "Being in the business now for 30-plus years, I’ve realized how competitive it is and how challenging it is to win in this business. To win, or even to put a competitive team on the ice, is very challenging. In 2004, we had one of the great experiences of my life. We went to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final…It was such a great experience, that 2004 run to the Cup. And so, those have been the highlights. Obviously, it’s a challenge some years when you’re not competitive."

Were you expecting details in a 4-question interview? Sheesh...

I thought this part sounded like a commercial:

Quote:
WGR: Scotia Place arena is scheduled to open in 2027, which will be the future home of the Calgary Flames. What impact will this new sports entertainment facility have on the team and the community?

ME: The most important thing is the impact it’s going to have on the community. A long time ago, I sat down with some business leaders in Calgary, and they had developed the concept of a gathering place. And in many communities like Calgary, these event centers, in our case, Scotia Place, are gathering places. It’s where people in the community come together for events, for concerts, for conventions, for meetings. And the Saddledome was a great building in its time, but its best-before had passed. We were falling behind.
So, the part where the Flames can make a bunch more money is just a side effect?

I'm surprised they want to change their name to the Calgary CNRLers.

I liked that he pointed out the double edged sword of expansion and the success of teams in southern markets. It's good for the league overall, but makes it tougher on small market Canadian teams. That's why I cringe a little bit when I hear about expansion into places like Houston and Atlanta.

I wish they would have asked about what he thinks are the things that need to be changed in the next CBA. He was pretty hands on during the last lockout so you know he is pretty dialed in on those aspects.

That can't be right. Just off the top of my head, the Dolan family, Jeremy Jacobs and the Wirtz family

I must be losing my mind too

Yeah, not really an interview as much as a "hello yes I just want fans to know that I do in fact exist in real life and I am in fact a human, goodbye!"

Lol, is this the first interview you have ever read? He answered the questions and I have NO idea how you got to the above based on what was written. How does reading comprehension usually go for you in your daily life? I hazard to guess there is a lot of confusion in your daily interactions.
