Default Blockbuster to close their remaining stores in Canada

Looks like Blockbuster has finally succumbed to Netflix, and all their remaining stores in Canada will be closing.

14 companies, including Rogers and Wind Mobile, made offers to buy all of the assets, but the receiver declined them all. Kind of sad to see. I don't have NetFlix yet, and it was still nice to go to the movie store every once in a while and pick up a flick. Sounds like I'll just have to go to Casablanca for that.

I haven't rented a movie in years, but this is very sad for nostalgic reasons.

I remember renting a lot of videos as a kid. I loved mega movies- where second cup is at the southland crossing shopping area.

Netflix needs a better selection of non-straight to video releases. There is a lot of absolute crap on there. And the quality is crap as well.

As a former Blockbuster employee, I feel bad for all the people still employed there. It was a great place to work.

Does this mean I don't have to return the movie I rented 3 months ago?

Blame Canada red tape/bureaucratic media BS on the selection.

Are there any even left in Calgary. Netflix has several movies but not much in relation to the new on dvd selections for purchase in say best buy, future shop etc. Shaw on demand and bell are very limited in choices. Hopefully that will change.

I've been enjoying Zip.ca for about 6 months, other than the postal strike

If I go into a store, can I rent like the entire store out and then just never return anything?

Netflix Canada sucks. Straight up. It's garbage. That said, I've never set foot in a Blockbuster.

Sure. Just make sure you use your mom's credit card.

Virtual private network. The point in this case is to use one to appear to be in the US, which is a requirement to access the US Netflix library.

Glad I don't have to pay that fine from 2006, which was about the last time I rented a movie.

IF this is legal, please describe how to do it. I tried Netflix Canada and selection was brutal. Only upside was lots of documentaries.
