2024–25 Calgary Flames midseason awards
As we are now officially at the midway mark of the Calgary Flames’ 2024–25 season, it is that time of the year to hand out some awards for the best and worst performances thus far. It feels like the typical Flames season so far, going into the season the talk of the town was about the tank and the high draft pick we thought we would see the Flames receive. That hasn’t exactly been the case as the Flames are right in the thick of the playoff race.
Examining Flames rookie Dustin Wolf’s chances to win the NHL’s Calder Trophy
The Calder Memorial Trophy has been awarded since the 1932-33 season, with 16 netminders winning the trophy. Mike Karakas was the first to do so for the Chicago Black Hawks in 1935-36, and the most recent netminder to win it was Steve Mason in 2008-09 thanks to a .916 save percentage and a 2.29 goals against average in 61 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Hurricanes Have “Checked In” On Flames’ Daniel Vladař
The Hurricanes have inquired with the Flames about goaltender Daniel Vladař’s availability in a trade as they look to shore up their goaltending depth, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff wrote Tuesday.
Vladař was softly connected to Carolina by Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic last month when he was detailing the Canes’ interest in the Ducks’ John Gibson. He was mentioned as a speculative trade candidate then but seems more firmly linked to Carolina now.
Flames prospect Andrew Basha out ‘long term’ with lower body injury
2024 draft choice Andrew Basha, currently playing with the Western Hockey League’s Medicine Hat Tigers, will be out “long term” with a lower body injury according to comments from Tigers general manager and head coach Willie Desjardins on Tuesday, courtesy of Medicine Hat News sports reporter James Tubb.

On Wednesday, during a pretty news-filled day already, the American Hockey League announced the rosters for its upcoming 2025 AHL All-Star Classic. Representing the Calgary Wranglers at the event will be goaltender Devin Cooley and forward Rory Kerins.

'Long Road To Get Here'
Rory Kerins admitted he was a bit nervous when arriving at the Scotiabank Saddledome Friday morning.
After all, he was about to take part in his first NHL regular-season practice, something he’s been yearning for since turning pro in the spring of 2022.
The 22-year-old was recalled by the Flames Friday morning, and there’s a chance he could lace up his skates in an NHL game for the first time Saturday night, when Calgary hosts Los Angeles.

I'm still on the 'make the playoffs' wagon. Vancouver doing whatever they can to piss their spot away, go ahead and grab it. Dropping to 'top 10' on the lower end of things is easier said than done, especially if Wolf plays well and we do start getting goals from those who should be scoring more.
So yeah, let's go out and win, beat a team that has won 5 in a row. Why not?
