News Roundup
Flames host the Predators in Western Conference action
BOTTOM LINE: The Calgary Flames host the Nashville Predators in Western Conference action.
Calgary has a 13-5-3 record in home games and an 18-13-7 record overall. The Flames have a 5-10-3 record in games they serve more penalty minutes than their opponents.
Nashville has a 4-13-4 record in road games and a 12-20-7 record overall. The Predators have given up 122 goals while scoring 94 for a -28 scoring differential.
5 Things - Flames vs. Predators
Know Your Enemy
The Predators arrive in Calgary in the midst of a six-game road trip, and Nashville earned victory No. 1 on their current swing with a 2-0 shutout win in Vancouver Friday night.
Steven Stamkos scored the decider late in the second period, Gustav Nyquist and Colton Sissons added empty-netters, while Juuse Saros made 27 saves to earn his 27th career shutout.
The win was just the fourth for the Predators on the road in 21 tries, and their second over the Canucks this season.
Despite Flames' loss, Kadri's passion is part of solution, not problem
You could see Nazem Kadri’s temperature rise at every step.
Clipped in the face by a passing Jack McBain, the blood dripping from his face as he picked himself off the ice did nothing to draw a penalty.
Enraged by the oversight, the stickless centre soon made a beeline toward Logan Cooley for a hit along the boards that drew an interference call despite the puck arriving at exactly the same time.
Say What - 'Night And Day'
Ryan Huska on what he sees from the Pelletier line when it's going well:
"I think they share the puck amongst themselves, so they’re close together, especially in the offensive zone. I think Jakob has a lot to do with it, when he is playing through people and when he’s using his speed to create turnovers, or be first to pucks. I think it allows them to play more with it. One - I would say - when they’re around each other, they share it well together and two, if Jakob is playing the right way, he’s able to create some loose pucks and opportunities for them."
NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames, and the Vancouver Canucks
Dan Vladar wants to remain in Calgary beyond this season but knows a trade is possible
Eric Francis of Sportsnet: 27-year-old pending UFA Dan Vladar wouldn’t mind extending with the Calgary Flames beyond this season and they should consider keeping him to help with Dustin Wolf‘s development.
In 2024, the Flames chose a bold new direction for their franchise
The Flames were faced with a big choice in 2023-24: regroup or press onward. After a challenging 2022-23 season, pressing onward would’ve involved doubling down on a roster that didn’t really gel together during that season, but was full of known quantities – established NHL players who could be counted upon to get the Flames to a certain level. Regrouping involved many more uncertainties.

Nashville played last night. Not a good team. Flames can’t let these 2 points slip away. Go flames!!!

Why would you get suspended for fighting in the AHL?
Seems to get suspended for the same thing as well. How bad do you high stick someone to get suspended 3 different times.
Need to get these type of players out of the game.

I’m enjoying the Flames outperforming expectations this season and salute the professionalism of the organization to not purposely suck. Go Flames!

Nashville is the team that surprised me the most this season. I thought they would have been way better than they are. Guess they are an example of what can happen when you go to the free agent well too hard. Might not always work out as well as you would hope.
That being said they still have some talent. Hopefully the Flames show up and play well. Need these points to stay in the race. I think they can pass the Canucks. They are falling apart.

They were handing out retirement contracts like they were run by multiple clones of Treliving.

After throwing away 2 free points last game if they can't take these ones I think the playoffs will be slipping away. This team is not good enough to leave points on the table.

I don't look at Nasvhille as the lousy team that their record indicates. Still a dangerous opponent out there that should improve in the standings. They are definitely not the pushover they seem to be.
Should be a hard fought game, unless the Flames managed to score a few early, in which case Nashville seems to be a team that gives up. I do expect a tough game tonight right through to the end - not an easy 2 points at all.

It would be great if one or both of Kuzmenko or Sharongovich could wake up. It would really change the dynamic.

Forsberg almost certainly scores a goal tonight.

Sharangovich has woken up a bit. The Pelletier-Zary-Sharabgovich line has been pretty great the last few games and he's been a big part of it.
I believe the goals for Sharangovich are coming.

I don’t know the record matches most of their rankings. Outside the Pk they aren’t very good.
They put up 19 shots vs a depleted Canucks team yesterday.
