Haven't been following the Avs this season, but term and dollar amount both seem off here. Starter money for five years while the Mackinnon and Makar window is open... can see it ending in tears.

the Devils are paying less than that for Markstrom - I am sure they are fairly happy with that fact.

looked good early in New Jersey, but really struggled with injuries there ... rebuilt his reputation in San Jose, now gets the bag. Good on him.

Not sure why they felt they had to lock him up this early. It’s like asking a person to marry you after four good dates. Maybe they thought he would have more leverage if he goes on a good run but this seems very premature as they should have given him a longer look to see if he could handle the pressure of backstopping a contender.

Vladar will be lucky to get anything close to what he gets now. He’s terrible and always has been. It’s highly questionable if he remains in the NHL next season

Pretty atypical to change out both your goalies via trade during the season. But it seemed like it was an emergency situation for them. Also seems to have worked out positively for them so far. Good work by their GM.

I bet this plays out quite nicely for the Avs. Blackwood has game, but was beaten down/underperforming/dealing with injuries while in the later parts of his time with the Devils. It's a bit surprising Colorado (had to?) commit for as long as they have here, but I don't hate the dollar figure.

Desperate is as desperate does. In all seriousness, I am sure they have scouted Blackwood extensively before acquiring him but this still feels way too early to sign him, and for way too long. It seems to me that they have a fairly exhaustive history of signing goalies to lengthy deals that they don't really want.
