Seems like the Wild are building a pretty good D with guys like Faber, Buium and Jiricek

was wondering where he'd end up, but I didn't necessarily have the Wild on my list. Nice deal for them.

Guerin really looks like he knows what he's doing. Wasn't sure it would go this way when the Suter/Parise buyouts happened.
Pretty solid club being built in Minneapolis.

On the other hand I don’t know what the Jackets are doing

Wild have done alot of good work recently.
Nice deal for them. Seems like a poor return for what should be a young blue chip prospect.

It's just odd that they make this specific move at this specific time.
They seem focused on making the playoffs this season, and hold a playoff position if you are counting P%.
So, you move Jiricek right now for a mediocre first, a 2nd, and a 4th...and a depth d-man of little consequence. I'm not sure how this trade helps them today or tomorrow.
I get that the 'market is what the market is', but I struggle to see how this was the best approach at this time.

I'm sure this is the type of deal conroy would like to find for a young center.

From Columbus’s perspective this looks like the trade you make with the worst GM in your fantasy league, convincing that GM they need to rebuild so why not trade their only good player for some future crap.

The issue is the 1st likely being late, as that makes the return something you'd expect for a rental and not a 21 year old former top 10 pick.

Thankfully not to the Oilers for the peanuts and crackerjacks they were offering.

I do feel for Blue Jackets fans, they genuinely can't have anything nice. Not even top 10 picks bring them joy ... relationship with 2022 6th overall pick sours and he's traded before his NHL career even takes off, 2024 4th overall pick is dealing with a chronic back issue at this point. At least Fantilli is good.

CBJ got a 3rd as well, updated title.
That sure is a lot of quantity.

I think that’s a fantastic deal for the Wild. Faber is a great NHLer. Buium sounds electric. Now the Wild add Jiricek. When they go from 14.75 to 1.67 dead cap space next season, they could become an instant cup favourite if they spend that money well. Jealous!

I assume they see what they had in Jiricek and didn't like it.
So they moved him for a decent return if their evaluation is correct.

Yeah, I think this means no one was offering a top-10 pick. Jiricek is still a really good prospect, but concerns have been raised about his footwork. Still lots of time to fix, of course. But often teams will hold onto high picks too long until they lose value. Only time will tell if Columbus did well.

They are the organization that burned a 4th overall pick on a bandaid, not sure I would be trusting their evaluations on players.

I like this for MIN, but I guess CBJ had to get something for a depreciating asset.
I would've been pretty happy if the Flames managed a similar trade for Jiricek. Something along the lines of: NJ 25' 1st + COL 25' 2nd + 4th + Kuznetsov/Poirier/Grushnikov.
Then they could recoup assets in an Andersson trade.
---
I hope Conroy manages to make a trade with CBJ for one of: Sillinger, Johnson, or Del Bel Belluz.
