I don't really have the words for what I want to say beyond — I'll never forget the sound of the entire Saddledome getting excited at once whenever Johnny touched the puck, especially in his rookie season. It felt like he came out of nowhere, and his eight full seasons went by way too fast. We all hated when he left, but only because we knew just how good we had it. He was so, so special.
I want this thread to be a place where people can share their own memories of Johnny, whether they be videos, gifs, anecdotes, you name it. Johnny deserves to be remembered for a long, long time. He gave all of us countless special moments. Who could forget this?
Thanks, 13. You were one of my first heroes, and I hope the Flames retire your number.

I think the Flames should consider retiring 13. Do they do it now or perhaps when they open the new building his number can be the first one raised in the rafters. In my hardcore fandom of the team Iggy, Kipper, Gaudreau, Giordano have been the faces of the franchise. He was an amazing player and I was lucky to watch him play live so many times including the OT goal against Dallas

Yes. I think we will see many 13 jerseys at the Dome this year. Wish I had one.

Johnny Hockey single handedly gave Calgary hockey when we had nothing. I remember scouring and watching every highlight of his when he was drafted before he was even a flame. Against all odds he was a generational talent. On top of that, you could tell he just loved the game. That smile, the Gatorade, his game breaking vision. I hope I see his number in the rafters.
As someone born in the 21st century, Johnny was the first star I got to see start to finish in calgary. Met him a few times when I was younger, he even said he recognized me the last time. I will never forget his skating style, and the way he got people up on their feet everytime he had the puck. He had skill very few players have had in the league, and certainly like no one we have seen and may ever see wear the flaming C. I was in the building for his game tying goal against Anaheim in 2015 and the game 7 overtime winner against Dallas in 2022, and I consider those the two best games I’ve ever been to.
Thanks for the memories Johnny, may you rest in peace and condolences to your family

My favorite memory is one night around Christmas we went out in our car to look at Christmas lights but I still wanted to take in the game so I put the game on the radio and Johnny scored and my daughter mimicked the goal announcement by saying his name "Johnny Ooooooo-dreau!" (She had a hard time saying the letter G) after that everytime she heard his name on TV she'd jump up and yell "Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!". He brought joy to a 5 year old and me.
