Wild Pull Off 2 Huge Deals
After watching a couple days of massive trade activity in the CPHL, the Wild got their trade on today with a pair of substantial deals.
The first sees Milan Hejduk returned to the Florida Panthers along with Will "The Thriill" Mitchell in exchange for Robert Lang and Mike Rathje, plus cash considerations.
GM Grant Farhall commented on the deal:
"Robert is a proven producer in the CPHL but the key to the deal was us being able to upgrade our defense by bringing in Rathje".
The 2nd, and arguably bigger deal sees Ilya Kovalchuk and Ales Hemsky head to Pittsburgh for Brad Richards and Alex Frolov.
Farhall had this to say
"Ilya and Ales are two great young players but in return we get two other great young players. We feel at this point that Brad and Alex are a bit better than Ilya and Ales so we feel we are a better team short-term, without sacrificing anything long-term. Overall we felt that something clearly was not working with our team and needed to make some significant changes".
To recap:
In: Brad Richards, Alex Frolov, Mike Rathje, Robert Lang
Out: Ilya Kovalchuk, Ales Hemsky, Will Mitchell, Milan Hejduk
