Makes sense given the injuries on the backend.

Maata is worth a mid round pick?
I mean kudos to him for eeking out a pretty sustained NHL career but I never thought he elevated beyond 3rd pairing guy. I recall having some high hopes for him in his draft year.

Anyone else first read “trade Mantha” and think we were involved?

On a decent team, Maata is a 7th/8th d man IMO. I don't see his trade as a precursor to anything.
I'll say this, if maata lands you a late 3rd round pick, Razz is gonna get us a glut of hockey nerd toys.

What we got for Zadorov no longer Maatta's.

I forgot he was still in the NHL.

Yeah that's a lot for Maatta, but Utah was pressed to do something with the injuries they had piling up.

It also shows how timing makes such a difference in the NHL trade market.
Jake Walman (2 x $3.4M) who out performed and outplayed Matta in their time in Detroit needed a 2nd round pick attached to him to move him in the offseason.
Olli Maatta (1 x $3.0M) who has been pretty poor in Detroit gets traded for a third.

In his rookie season, he had 29 points, and looked like he was going to be a top pairing guy....then he regressed and never really got much better. He was a good option as a #4/5 guy that could step up to temporarily fill a larger role. The last couple of seasons, he seems to look worse.
Over $35 million USD in career earnings. He's always been just good enough to hang around.

Taken at 22 in the 2012 entry draft, one pick after Mark Jankowski.

It's the Rangers 3rd remember, so it's going to be a late 3rd.

Maatta has certainly done a lot better for himself than another Olli (Juolevi). Still can't believe he went as early as he did.
