So the question is essentially “Hey, will the Flames finish bottom 10 in the league standings?” And my answer is that it’s absolutely possible, and we’ll see how likely it is based on how the Flames look in the month of November.
Flames Takeaways: Goaltending helps extend record-setting start
Rarely have expectations been lower in Calgary, and never has the team started this well.
It has been a fascinating couple of weeks for the Flames.
Even though Saturday evening ended with an overtime loss in Seattle, the club’s 4-0-1 start is the best in franchise history.
And, in large part, they have their goaltenders to thank for that.
Their biggest question mark heading into the season has been their biggest strength.

Preseason prognostication painted the Calgary Flames defence as a potential weakness. A fair assessment given the complete overhaul over the past year through trades and free agency.
So far, though, that back end has been a strength.

After all of the turnover from last year’s roster, the Flames came out of training camp with four brand-new forward trios. There have been some solid early returns so far, as well as some trios that clearly don’t work together. So how has each group fared? Sure changes the fabric of that transaction if the Flames have a controlled (RFA in a year) 6'5" top four defenseman and a 1st round pick.
