Flames have outscored the opposition 9-2 in 3rd periods so far.
And have been full marks in doing so - dominating, each time.

I don't entirely agree on Honzek. Yes, he has been working hard and staying above water. But the 'lack of bounces' is more, IMO, that the game hasn't slowed down for him yet and he is still fully in reaction mode as opposed to being in control.
He earned the opportunity to start with the team, after that amazing pre-season performance. But the sooner they get him to the Wranglers, where he can work on his game, build his confidence, and learn how to be a pro, the better.

Honzek is an amazing story to me. The kid is 1 and went from a mediocre injury riddled junior season straight into the NHL.
Very impressive

He's getting chances, which isn't common for the guy that is under water.
He's 4th on the team for expected individual goals behind Kadri, Coleman and Huberdeau. He's 6th in individual high danger chances.
That matches the eye test for me.
He could wither and end up with the Wranglers, in fact I think he will, but not yet. Belongs.

The effort is there, the chances are there, but he is bobbling them because he is playing in reaction mode vs being in control and being able to handle those chances.
It's a results league, not a fancy stats league, and he would be better served in the AHL for now.

I wonder what they do with Honzek. Are they going to burn a year of elc at this point?

I think Honzek should be on a game by game basis until Sharangovich is back. Right now he should stay in the lineup.

That felt a little preachy!
A player that is generating good individual chances but not finishing isn't the guy that I demote.
It's the guy that looks a step behind and handles the puck like a hand grenade.
At some point he'll need to finish or he gets sent down, but with how he's contributing I don't think it's soon.

Honzek looks like he's been in the league for years. He's using his body well and not afraid to engage guys who have been in the league for years. He's getting his chances and it's only a matter of time until they start going in.

How is it preachy? Just stating my opinion.
The guy that's a step behind shouldn't be there, period.
As for a 19 year old that still needs to learn how to be a pro, and to build his game and his confidence, getting by, statistically isn't enough, IMO - he is better off in the AHL where he can develop and excel

The fancy stat sentence felted a little like being talked to not with.
But I agree ... I think he sees the Wranglers at some point. But he looks like he belongs way more than Coronato did last year.

I believe they can’t save a year regardless because he’s a 2004 birthday. Regardless of where he plays, it’ll use a year of his contract

I could see them sending Honzek down if they sense frustration from not collecting points but it's still early. Other moving parts like injuries and opportunities for Coronata may play a role.

Not every post is an attack. And you aren't the personal champion of fancy stats, so I don't see why a statement like that should be taken personally by you. But whatever.
Also, I agree that he has looked better than Coronato did last year.

A guy who is a step behind does have an expected goals that high.
He is far from a step behind.
