Default Littering... What do you think?

http://www.mytelus.com/news/article....icleID=2157667

This courier makes her opinion heard...

Personally, I can't stand litterbugs. This is one of the most insignificant things that can get me boiled up into a near rage at the drop of a hat (or, McDonalds bag).

Not just the ****ers that chuck their trash out their car windows, but the ones that flick butts, toss empty cig packs, toss candy bar wrappers as they walk down the street... And top of my list are the SOBs that leave camp spots full of trash. Broken bottles, empty soup cans, styrofoam, broken tents.... Grrr...

I gotta say, I've flipped the bird at more than one person after witnessing them tossing their crap out the window. Not sure I'd go as far as this chick, though.

Oh, while I'm bitching, I'll re-iterate my agner and hatred for the ******* that changed his diff fluid out at McLean two summers ago. Left a nice puddle of gear oil right by one of the spots I would frequent.

Some people...

It all falls under the "Somebody Else's Problem" mentality that people seem to have.

My biggest pet peave is the lit cigarette one. Whoever things throwing a flaming piece of litter out a car window is a "good idea" should be sentanced to 100 hours community service to pick up trash.

Laugh. That picture on the bottom right is hilarious. GRRRR!

Talk about having a quick temper though, sheesh. Get in a fight with a girl over something like that? I wouldn't want to be his wife.

He sure looks like a fool coming out of this one so the girl did her part.

I've wanted to do that. I've seen fast food bags thrown out of cars, and it ****es me off. I don't think I'd have the cahones to confront the person and throw the trash back.

I've never even heard of anyone getting ticketed for littering.

I hate the buggers who treat our world like it's their personal toilet.
People tossing smoke butts, garbage and even dumping out the ashtray while waiting for the light to change make me sick.

Man, you guys wouldn't last 5 seconds in China. They only recently started garbage pick up in Beijing, where the norm was to fill a garbage bag and then toss it on the street. I almost got hit one morning and seriously thought the guy was doing it on purpose.....until I was told it was up to me to "avoid" flying garbage.

Can't say I've ever seen anyone doing it in Calgary though. The ones I have seen are the mattresses and various other office furniture that scatter the ditches close to me. I work somewhat close to the dump, and it seems that as soon as someone realizes that they have to pay $5 to throw out a mattress they toss it in our driveway instead.

One day, I wish I could catch these people.

You guys are so spoiled, in some places of the world when you're walking on the street you have to watch out for things dropping out of the windows 30-stories above.

The one thing with the story that inspired this thread, the litter the guy threw out was a sandwich.

Depending on how it was done, may be less "bad" then what we consider as litter. I'll be the first to admit that I have dumped out the contents of a pop bottle onto the street; but that is done for a reason. If I dump out the spillage factor I can keep the litter in my car until I next take the car to the car wash.

Even as a kid, I'd never litter. Still don't. I wouldn't say I'm a fanatic about it. I don't get on anyone's case.

Pretty funny she'd throw his crap back in his car.

But . . . . you never know how someone is going to react.

From a comment by the guy who took the pictures:

Quote:
i did not see the beginning of this, but the report goes as follows:
motorist throws food out of window. courier, disliking littering, picks up food and throws food back in car. motorist dumps coffee on courier. courier scratches car with key. road rage ensues.

the courier is female. i 'got away' with taking pics by just doing it openly. nobody noticed me because the focus is obviously on the altercation at hand.

i followed the motorist back to his car to photograph his license plate number. he proceeded to open his trunk, take out a baseball bat, and charge me. i walked away, and was one of only two witnesses to stay at the scene and give a statement to police.

In this case, I'd side with the cyclist. She probably shouldnt have done it, but that doesn't give the ###### in the car the right to attack her. Shame the police managed to avoid having to do any work by cowing her into not pressing charges.

Incidentally, the the city is currently planning to increase the fine for littering from a maximum of $110 to a maximum of $2000.

The thing that really irks me is driving buy a mcd's or wendy's on a saturday or Sunday morning and seeing all the garbage thrown out the window into the parking lot...paper bags, napkins, etc. there is a freakin garbage outside, if you have time to pull in and eat your food get your ass out of the car and throw the trash away!!

Yeah that's pretty weak. They guy assaulted a woman in broad daylight and they have pictures and witnesses and there are no charges because he got a little scratch on his car? Pretty screwy priorities. In Hakan's link the woman actually explains it that her key is on her wrist and it hit the van during the altercation when the guy grabbed her by the helmet.

The notoriety and hopefully lifetime of having to live this down will have to do I guess.

Funny story about my wife confronting a litterbug at Market Mall just before Christmas.

There was a lady 40-45ish standing with her 2 kids just outside Old Navy as we walked by.

Lady drops several wrappers. Not sure if they were food wrappers, but were similar. Someone passing by points it out to her and she pulls the old "no speaka english, it's OK" thing while gesturing no and waving.. This happens as we are 2-3 feet away. My wife stops and, as she hands the stuff to the lady, says "NO, IT'S NOT OK! YOU SHOULDN'T TEACH YOUR KIDS TO LITTER" and proceeded to direct and lead her to the garbage can a few feet away. They lady turned beet red. Priceless. As a result, I don't litter around the house...

Yea, Rome is pretty bad for trash, but we're talking about Canada. Just because the rest of hte world is ok with tossing trash on the street don't mean Canadians have to accept it in Canada

That *******! I picked up some subway wrappers and chucked them back in some punky kids car once. How are some people so nervy to actually throw their lit cigarettes out the window?
