Not a good thing for Sharangovich or the team. Injuries suck.

Massive opportunity for Honzek though.

Honzek is taking his spot; what the hell is Hanley doing here?

Hanley is a very good #7, and I have no issue with him on the team.

His shot suppression and defensive metrics in all situations dwarf every other defensemen on the Flames.

The Flames are a much better team when he is on the ice than when he is off.

You're doing it wrong. He is over 30 and therefore a terrible hockey player, a generally bad person, and his father smelt of elderberries!

Damn it, there's always something. Hopefully Sharangovich returns quickly.

10 years from now you all can tell your kids that time the Flames kept the great 7th instead of Pelletier

That is if Pelletier becomes something …..

How is it Hanley's fault if Pelletier can't beat out any of the 4th line guys or extra player to make the team? Are you saying you want Hanley sent down so Pelletier can sit here as the 14th forward and never play?

Maybe blame Pelletier for not making it a tough choice, he did nothing in the preseason and an injury from last year is not an excuse, see Honzek for comparison.

I am not blaming the players. Just saying the choice was risky.

I thought they should give him some more time as they are going nowhere fast. Although, I don’t think he is much anyway.

Bottom line , no big deal for me

There's just something about this defensive group that makes me think 'there's something going on'

Weegar-Miromanov
Bahl-Andersson
Bean-Pachal
Hanley-Barrie

Why carry 8, and have to expose Pelletier while losing Schwindt...when Joel Hanley is to be carried as that 8th?

Hanley isn't going to be on the ice much, I'd wager, given the current depth ahead of him.

It's just not going to surprise me if Andersson is traded sooner rather than later. Pachal has certainly earned his spot, and they went out of their way to sign Barrie...Andersson out, Barrie slides into the spot and Hanley becomes the actual #7.

When did Sharangovich get injured? Was he the one that collided with Kadri during practice?

Exactly one prospect made the lineup, even with an extra spot opened up by an injury. Even have Wolf backing up a career backup.

We're not making the playoffs even with this lineup, so I'm not sure why we can't just load it up with prospects and see if any of them can figure it out. Who knows... maybe a guy like Pelletier does better playing with NHL scrubs vs AHL scrubs? Sucks that we seem determined to never find out.

I probably sound like a broken record but....
1. What happens on opening night matters little. What matters is how much opportunity is created through the entire season, and what those players do with those opportunities. We saw this very thing last year.
2. The Flames pipeline had a gap based on when their picks were made. They've re-built the pipeline largely with guys who aren't ready yet. I didn't expect a huge influx of prospects into the lineup to start the season.
3. For most these guys playing time is really key. Guys like Brew and Gru are better off to play tons down in the AHL, in all situations, instead of being 5/6 up here.

I think your expectations weren't reasonable.

Also...

Honzek, Coronato and Klapka makes 3, not 1. Wolf too.

But why let facts spoil a good narrative?

The long term goal is developing prospects. The defense prospects can all use some AHL time and they are giving Coronato, Honzek, and Klapka a look. Pelletier looked worse than all three of those players, so what do you want them to do? Scratch a vet to play Pelletier even if he is playing poorly?
