Interesting that Parekh is skating with the crew, but didn't get invited/didn't go to the NHLPA prospect thingy.

Was he not invited?

Captain's skates? Isn't that what the Edmonton "media" was calling it last year because Connor McDavid came up with the idea to rent ice and invite teammates to skate with him?

My guess is the organization will do everything they can to make him feel at home.

Of course a Oiler fan boy would call a Flames skate that.

Looking at the photo more closely, it seems like players more likely to play in the NHL this year.

I don't think the Oilers invented it. I did a Google search for the term, and see that Colorado held a "Captain's Skate" last year and called it such. Toronto as well.

Although the media sure did make a big deal out of it when the Oilers did it.

I believe the Canucks also did something similar last year.

Captains Skates are just what they call these sort of informal practices prior to when training camp starts when teams cannot officially call the players in for formal organized practices.

Football has the same things prior to training camps.

Which makes fawning over mavi for doing something completely normal even more sad.

Zayne is focused on camp in Calgary.
I believe he was invited but chose to remain here.

Captain skates are a term from NCAA hockey. NCAA rules forbid formal practices with coaches until the first day of school so the skates they have leading up to that are called Captain Skates and are led by the captains instead of the coaches.

No, they didn't invent it. Players have been doing it for decades. The Oilers media made it seem like McDavid came up with something new because leadership.

I don't see a player for the Islanders, Bruins, or Vegas either.

They showed up at Oiler captain skate hoping to catch on for free to chase the dream.
