It wasn't that long ago here that when asked both Allvin and Rutherford said he was fine and was ready to go, so something has obviously changed since the end of July.

So I listened to the hit. Taj (as usual) cherry picked the most sensationalist things said by Dhaliwal and used them without the context of the full interview.

Dhaliwal says the red flags aren't out and the expectation is that Demko will be ready for the start of the season. There was some expectation that the rehab would be done by now, but there are no signs that it will drag on through September/October.

Edit - That all said, I'd take Askarov for the right price because why wouldn't you?

Great goaltender but you have to wonder how long his career is going to be. Silovs looked decent but too early to tell if he could handle more than a backup load.

I was going to say; are we actually starting threads based on random fans on Twitter?
This guy doesn't have any clue what Demko's status is.

I support threads or long discussions on CP ignited by information shared by our own community who are unconfirmed insiders as well. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's August, it's fun to talk about hockey things when official releases are hard to come by, but that could just be me.

The problem is a good chunk of people take this info as gospel and run amok with it. See our Trade & Speculation thread for example.

The Nucks will play an entire season with an empty net, no goalie. That's what I immediately assumed.

I agree. I also like to just make things up.

My understanding is that Demko, physically, is just fine, but during his physical rehabilitation he came by an addiction to LEGO construction which has inhibited his ability to practice.

Thusly he has been re-introduced to Rehab to be cured of this addiction.

May God have mercy on his soul.

I don't know, I'm not sure the big fuss. We have essentially he could be out a long/undefined time to its exaggerated, we still think he will be ready for start of season, but....

Combine it with Demko's ongoing history of injury and...I don't know, seems fodder for discussion to me. Thought about sticking it in the "Vancouver is no good thread", but couldn't find it quickly on my phone, and honestly, whether this ends up being a nothing burger or absolutely collassal thing, Demko is a high profile goalie and an utterly key player for the Canucks, so....discuss on its own? Its mid-August people, at least it gives a bit to discuss.

Who, besides Askarov, is even available in the goalie market?

On the Askarov front, I guess one thing to consider is that if Philly's Ryan Johansen shenanigans work out and they get him off the cap, Nashville would have more cap room to play with in a trade.

LEGO Goalie Pads.

Not as awesome as you'd think.

Oh Lord, if he steps on Lego he's absolutely done for.

I don't see Askarov as the right play even if Demko is on the shelf for a bit. The Canucks are in win now mode, they are better off getting someone who has proven he can play at the NHL level as a stop gap. They don't need to part with the type of futures capital it would take to get Askarov.
