Icon42 Oilers do not match offer sheets on Broberg & Holloway. Acquire 2028 3rd & Fischer

https://www.nhl.com/blues/news/blues...ay-from-oilers

Quote:
St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced the team has signed defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway to two-year contracts after the Edmonton Oilers declined to match the offer sheets signed by the two players on Aug. 13.

To satisfy the required compensation for the unmatched offer sheets, the Blues are sending the Oilers their 2025 second-round draft pick for Broberg and their 2025 third-round draft selection for Holloway.

In a separate transaction, St. Louis is sending its 2028 third-round draft pick and unsigned 2023 fifth-round draft selection Paul Fischer to Edmonton for future considerations.

This makes the Ceci trade look strange. Maybe another trade in the works? It's a big hit for a prospect barren team to lose their top two prospects. It's a great day to be a Flames fan.

There is great rejoicing in the Holloway and Broberg households.

It was probably the smartest option with an eye to re-signing McAvi and Pissy.

Oilers defensive group remains questionably terrible.
But when they solely focus on PP points and winning games 6-4 I guess that works!

It seems like Ken Holland could never figure out that salary cap thingy.

I hope this is because Kane refused to play the fake LTIR game.

Despite criticism, Ceci and Broberg were NHL defencemen. Now the Oil have Brown and Emberson.

They won't really miss Holloway or Kane TBF. The Arviddson and Skinner signings make them older but those guys have a year or so of laying much better than Kane and Holloway.

Funny looking back at the praise they were getting for the free agent signings in July… those signings likely played a part in them losing their two best young players today. You can argue they might have a better forward group in terms of scoring but I think their speed and their two-way game has taken a big hit.

Amazing. Watching the Oilers turn 8th & 14th overall into ~48th & ~80th is like watching "Ernest plays NHL general manager"

Can't wait to read Spectors follow-up to the "master-class" column.

Hah... yep.

"This, folks, is both thinking outside the box and getting things done with a Tuesday morning deadline pointing a gun straight at the heads of the Oilers’ brass."

So I guess that gun went off, huh Spec?

That smug piece from Spector after the Ceci trade will really age well now.

If I am not mistaken every single 1st rounder from the Ken Holland regime is no longer with the Oilers.
