Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2024 - Round 32
Welcome to the annual Calgarypuck Prospect Poll!
As per usual ...
1. Rank the prospects as you like. Upside, chances, or trade value
2. I will try and do one a day which should get us to mid to late August
3. Graduates and/or runoffs will be determined in each case
4. Please don't complain that the polls are going to deep. We go until all the prospects are ranked, so don't vote if you don't want to.

Current pick in bold. I like Jamieson as a potential bottom pairing physical d-man. Maybe only makes it as a 7th d-man, but he has that snarl you hope to see in the NHL. I still like him over Okhotiuk because of the Russian factor and the fact that he didn't seem to stand out in any particular skillset when watching him play. Okhotiuk's an okay generic overall d-man, but isn't very good at any one thing.

I think either of Laing and Jamieson stand a good chance of rising up this list next year.

Also going with Jamieson. I watched his highlight vid on youtube more recently than everyone elses so he stands out the most.

Jamieson, a big and mean defenseman, has better stats than Laing, a big forward.
Both guys have some upside since there is still a lot of runway left.

We need a top end C real bad, just from casually reading this.

It's 100% our biggest weakness. Even looking at our roster.
Kadri, Backlund, Sharangovich and Rooney?
1/4 players is a part of future plans.

You're correct, but we all knew this before looking at our current prospect pool. Hopefully we can draft someone top 5 this year to become a franchise center. At least a legitimate #1 guy would help. Kadri will be the #2 for the foreseeable future.
And while that's the negative, I think the positive is to see that we really do have a nice set of prospects at wing and defense. Perhaps only a few real top line players, but a ton of guys that can fill the 2nd line/pair on down. Maybe you sign a big free agent to fill a top line spot if you can't get it through the draft.
There are some nice players in goal as well, but it's so hard to predict. The strategy of having 4-5 goalies in the system is sound. Many won't work out, but all you need is one or two to make an impact.

Just a comment on our best C prospect being at #16.

I would honestly be shocked if Misa ends up being a center at a higher level. He screams shifty/skilled winger to me.
On the other hand, I think Lipinski would slip nicely into Backlund's spot once he retires. He has that type of shutdown game with good faceoff skills, and a touch of offensive upside.

Worse, Sharangovich isn't a natural C! We're very thin down the middle. Hopefully one of Zary, Pospisil or Sharangovich can fill in while we find that top end guy

It really is. Thankfully 2025 and 2026 drafts should fix this, and it was likely better to get the dman first in 2024 due to a potentially longer journey to being impact players.
2025 and 2026, the draft list needs to prioritize C’s though imo

With Devon Cooley I think these odds would be pretty low for this season but maybe he plays well in the AHL and they trade Vladar mid-season?
